Straight pipe good idea?

i have dyno max exhaust on my iroc right now but i think its a little to queit i was thinking of cutting it off and having to end up making my own dual scince its only 1 pipe that comes over the rear end. will it be to loud if i do that and how will it effect my power if it does at all?

put a cam in it and a nice set of headers should be a bit louder. also make it a dual exhaust cause it looks better.

o, i also have a mild cam on mine, but i still need to get some hooker shorty headers, and a brand new dual exhaust system instead of the crappy y shaped exhaust it has right now, but also going to put a pretty decent size cam in mine, my car is also quite quiet, unless you hit like 4 or 5 grand then is sounds really nice.

That;s why my 350 is getting, a nice cam, long tubes and straight pipe. It's all depends on how loud you want/handle. I personally could care less, but other might not like it so loud.

It might brighten up some cop's day if you go straight pipes. You could use two small glass packs to tone it down a bit if you are going true duels.

Re: Straight pipe good idea?

My previous 5.7 IROC had straight pipes, for a while.(quick fix after the factory exhaust rotted off) My wife (then girlfriend) could here me about 5 minutes before i got to her house. It was a small town and she could hear me when the highway changed from 90 kmh to 60 and i threw it in 3rd gear. It was extremely loud. In the city i really had to keep an eye out for the cops, and just idle by them. As for more power, I'm not sure, but it would set off car alarms everywhere I went.

Re: Straight pipe good idea?

2 years ago i removed all my exhaust up to my cat, then replaced that with a glasspack, one large speed bump, and lost the glasspack. it sounded decent after i lost the glasspack, but after 2-3 weeks, i hated the sound, seeing as it was a DD. the bark was way worse than the bite.

Re: Straight pipe good idea?

I'm running straight pipes dumped right at the tranny crossmember right now until I get time to install a modified Hawk's dual exhaust crossmember so I can see if I can run my X pipe or pick up an H from Jegs. Then I'm doing a 'poormans' Loud Mouth II with either some Pypes M80's or OBX 'resonators'. Quiet at idle, aggressive under throttle.

That being said, the car is LOUD. I enjoy loud exhaust (have MBRP on my Colorado- wife won't let me touch the TB or GA yet), but this is to the point of being obnoxious. I have a video of the car with the first drive with LT's and T5 swap, and the car is just as loud on the street as it was parked in the drive. Our driveway can fit 6 cars with ease. You can hear the car over the music easily. I need to upload the same vid without music.

On a funny side note, the first time I revved the engine around my 2 year old daughter, she crapped her pants. Literally. The joys of potty training around loud cars.

Re: Straight pipe good idea?

I would remove the cat and put a single chamber on it.But dont put the muffler where the cat was try and keep it in its stock location.
