Removed cat converter now car smokes
Removed cat converter now car smokes
I have a 1989 RS w/305 TB with only 89,000 miles on it. I removed the cat converter and now my car smokes like a worn out school bus, it did not do it before. All sensors check out okay and I repaired all vacuum lines that could leak. Its blowing white smoke. I put in a can of sea foam (full tank of gas) and it got worse. I would greatly appreciate any help!

Well im sure you have the classic bad valve seals and/or guides. The converter probably ate up most of the smoke, so now with it being gone you see it. Not a big deal, just a smoky mess. Seafoam cleans up cylinders, but it'll probably be burning off for awhile.

Bad seals will only get worse. Why did you remove the cat? Put a highflow cat on there like Magnaflow and you'll reduce the smoke without sacrificing power. BUT, if you don't address the valve seal issue, you're probably going to go through cats often.
