Headman Long tube Headers, and exhaust advice.
Just installed my new 383 stroker motor. Waiting for my Headman long tubes to be delivered. Any advice or suggestions on what to do for a Y pipe and muffler. I want to run 3" all the way back. Any advice or suggestions is appreciated, and yes I've done searches...
Thank you,
Thank you,

Imo the side exits aren't a smart idea for these cars its been done but always clerance issues. I had the hedman longtubes on my 82 trans am and my 86 and both fit great the lowest part was my y pipe right where it went under the transmission crossmember same when I ran true duals dumped.

makes it easier to unbolt motor mounts and just lift the motor a couple of inches. once you do that they drop right in.

Re: Headman Long tube Headers, and exhaust advice.
Out of the Summit catalog 68460. 1 5/8 and 3" collectors. They went in from the bottom really easily. Literally in a few minutes. The car is on a lift, no starter installed yet, didn't have to unbolt or lift the engine. Stock starter will fit. Welded in a bung on the Collector/Reducer for the O2 censor easily as well. This way if we screwed up, it's cheaper to replace the reducer than the header. Passenger side is clear of any obstructions, have to get a different oil dipstick. Drivers side is close to the frame, a little persuasion with a pry bar took care of that, and have to trim a corner off the A-arm mount, just a slight touch.
Being in Michigan, we don't have emissions testing so I'm not running a cat. or air pump. I'm ordering a Flowmaster Y collector from Summit, 2.25 primary and 3" outlet. A couple of 2.25 mandral U bends and a 3" cat back and I'm good to go. So I'm fabing my own Y pipe. I'm surprised there's no "off road" Y pipe out there for long tube headers for our cars.
Hopefully I'll have it running by weeks end.

Re: Headman Long tube Headers, and exhaust advice.
The reason there are no good LT y-pipes is just because tehre's no way to route them without horribly compromising ground clearance.
Measure from the ground to your crossmember, and subtract the diameter of your pipe you want to use and you will get an idea. There's just no room to run it. Oval piping is the only real solution, but that's SO expensive.
I've got LT's and my setup looks like this thanks you a trick crossmember and my T56
This is what it looked like before with dual 3's at stock height:
It did sound REAL good though.
I am running GM heads and stock engine mounts, and this is where I had to trim the A-arm perch
