Straight pipe or cat
I'm swapping the engine in my camaro and put a set of hooker 2055 headers on the new engine. So I'm getting my exhaust redone with a 3" pipe all the way back.
I've already picked up a Catco 9118 catalytic converter, but I've had numerous people ask me why I'm not just doing a straight pipe.
I no longer have a smog system in my car. And my state does not do inspections (currently).
What are the pros vs cons for doing straight pipe vs installing the catalytic converter? I really don't know much about exhaust other than supposedly without a catalytic converter the exhaust will flow slightly easier. With that slightly extra flow are we talking a possible 1 or 2 hp, or 10 or 15 hp increase? Will it change the sound of the exhaust?
Thanks for any advice or information.

You just wont have to worry about a clogged converter in the near future, and sound will change slighty, thats about it. HP depends on build, might not gain any.

If you put it in and it clogs, i'd just straight pipe it. Until then I'd put it in there so you dont smell like a lawnmower after you go for a ride.

straight pipe,
pros:
-sounds -abit- a better i.e: tone, volume, level.
-cheap: we drive 3rdgens.....not vettes. ; )
-better flow, NOTHING can out flow that which is not their.... -like when some muff company said their "x" could outflow a straight pipe....that IS impossible....you can not out flow that which is NOT their.
-no clogs....ever, or over heated cat.
cons:
-prius owners will love you. ; )
-cali smog ***** will hate you.
