Cost of building a good exhaust
I got a quote of $275 to build one from the headers 2 1/2 in into a y pipe then 3 inch to the muffler parts and labor. Is this a reasonable price or should I go somewhere else.

You can buy ($249) a mandrel-bent 3" cat back w/Magnaflow muffler cheaper & typically headers come with a y-pipe section.

If the place does good work then that's a great price. Mine is going to run me around 500 for pretty much the same thing without cats and maybe with a bigger y.

That's the big IF.
For that price I'd expect to see crush bent, poorly designed poorly welded crap with some Flowmaster knockoff. If this is a buddy deal or something I'd buy it, but if this is just some muffler shop you walked into I would be suspicious.

Well there's always ways to find out, either ask for pictures of their work or ask people you know around town. People always talk about good and bad shops so its not to hard to find out what you want to know.
