I have a 1985 Camaro now with a carbed 350. It has shorty headers with a y-pipe welded to a length of pipe with a muffler in the cat location with a pipe that dumps at the axle. It was like that when I bought it.

I am looking for a new cat back kit and there seems to be a difference between the 82-85 and 86-up kits. I don't have to worry about having a cat where I am, so the connecting flange doesn't matter. The current system also has custom hangers and I would have to do some welding to make a new kit mate up with the y-pipe.

Without needing a cat, could I use any "cat-back" system for a thirdgen camaro? I am looking at the Dynomax super turbo kit. I want the car to be pretty quiet and not too worried about performance. I had dynomax super turbos on my 351W Mustang and it wasn't too loud.

 

I have an '85 T/A and bought all 86-up exhaust. Big difference is flange style on inlet and outlet to cat, and orientation of A.I.R check valve. Sounds like this is isn't an issue for you so it shouldn't be a problem.
