th400 and headers

Just got my 355 running and its awesome.
But I know its dying from those stock manifolds.
So headers are going on no.matter what.
Problem is I have a th400. And it has those bigger flaps
On side. I would love long tubes but I'm.guessing.I would already have
Fitment issues with the stock k member then the trans after.
I have looked at shortys into the y pipe. But I just want that more
Power from the long tubes.

Has anyone ever installed long.tubes with a th400 and find there way around it?

Unless your over 500hp ish you wont really gain much from longtubes vs shorties like dyno dons.
If you just have to have longtubs, you can cut off the flaps on the trans, I have done many of them.
What are you doing with this car?

Cut the ears off. But you still will have tight clearances around xmember for ypipe to hook up. If car is lowered there will be ground clearance issues.

Re: th400 and headers

Well the car is just going to be driven on.weekends
To cruise meets and some track time as well.
The cars not lowered. I want it to remain stock.height.
Rite now I'm not near 500hp. My goal is atleast get 400 Hp
At the wheel and il be happy

Re: th400 and headers

everybody has exhaust issues with long tubes because you have to come below the frame. ive got a th400 and long tubes but i just left it open, but ive been wanting to put an exhaust on it. ive changed the conversion crossmember so it sits back further (welded new mounts). i think im going to cut the frame were the exhaust is going to go and weld in supports were i cut it out. i already have sub frame connectors.

Dyno don shortys are about as good as you can get. More than enough for 500 hp, its been proven. I would contact him

Re: th400 and headers

you will have to cut the ears off the trans. Also I made another crossmember for the 400 that way you can run longtubes and duels without cutting the frame. The pipe will get close to the trans but it will work.
