magnaflow trouble?
magnaflow trouble?
1989 firebird formula 5.7 TPI. The problem I have is with the stock manifolds. I took it to a shop to replace the stock ex with a new magnaflow Y pipe, high flow cat, and cat back ex. As luck would have it the studs broke off and they will not come out. Now would be the time to put on a set of headers. Thinking I will go with the 2055 coated hookers. The question I have is will my stainless steel magnaflow Y pipe bolt up to the 2055 headers? I know they come with their own y pipe but would like to use the stainless y I already have. Plus I already have a sale for the extra Y pipe that I would end up with so that not an issue. They both seem to have ball and socket type joint with two bolts on each side bolting it together. The magnaflow Y pipe was ment to bolt up to the stock manifold. Any input would be cool, thanks
Re: magnaflow trouble?
Cant decide weather or not to go to headers. Have decided that if I go that route I am going to go with the coated 2055 hookers. Performance wise I am not to concerned although more power is always better. I am concerned about the reliability and the longevity of headers. I just bought this car and will be keeping for probably the rest my life as it was the exact car I had when I was 16. The car will probably never see rain or be driven in the winters. It might see a few thousand miles per year only to get ice cream on sundays with the kids. Wonder what kind of life I will get out of them? 10 years? 15? Or just put stk manifolds back on which are a lot cheaper and probably never have to look at again? But now would be the time to put them on as it apart at a local shop waiting for me to decide. But I cant seem to decide!!!

You can get the 2055 hookers and y pipe as a kit off of summit racing. That's where I ordered from. Haven't installed yet.

Re: magnaflow trouble?
I would think that an exhaust shop should have no problems modifying the magnaflow y-pipe to work with shorty headers. That said, it's probably a lot easier to return the Mangaflow y-pipe and get a header & y-pipe kit.
