I have already blueprinted a nice 305 (using my stock block) to reach into the low to mid 300 horsepower range and am looking for exhaust to maximize this power. I am wondering if doing shorty headers with a y pipe to single cat set-up would be a better option than doing the flowmaster kit made to replace the 1LE dual cat system and adding two cats. Also, I am wondering how muchy extra work and or trouble would be involved with installing this dual cat setup. Thanks in advance

 

I'm not sure, but I thought the Flowmaster dual cat setup was no longer available. If you find one, let me know. For a 305 the 3" cat back setup is plenty.

 

I believe you can purchase one from classic industries/eckler's camaro. It's like $400

 

It's all about the $$. How much do you have?

Running the shorty headers, Y-pipe and single 3" exhaust on a 305 no matter how powerful won't lose anything to the dual exhaust your wanting, and it'll be cheaper. You can get a single 3" set up for under $700 installed. Running a dual...at least $900 would be my guess, especially if you buy all mandrel bent tubing for it. Might be a little less if you source all the individual pieces yourself and then put them together.

 

No such thing as a "1LE" exhaust system. The dual cats were N10.

OZZ, did you mis-read his original post? He mentions the dual cats, but not dual exhaust. Not criticizing, but trying to keep his intentions true.
