87 camaro header fitment issue

hey guys I was hoping to get some insight on a header fitment issue. It's an 87 z28 305/700r4 and it's regarding hedman shortys, (I got the shortys cause I have the car lowered about an inch and a half) the unpainted kit that comes with a y pipe. They fit up pretty good but the driver's side flange and y pipe flange are right into the control arm and on the passenger side the header flange is into the side of the transmission where the inspection cover mounts to...

So I was looking for insight on how to modify these babies...I can't fit a sawzall or angle grinder in there to make any adjustments. Spinning the flanges isn't going to help me either. The motor mounts are original but the car has low miles. Any insight would be appreciated. I got the car running awesome but the header flanges rubbing is killing me!!!

Take them off and ship them back for another set, I had all sorts of issues with Headman in the past. Far as I'm concerned their absolute junk......

I have heddman shorties on my t/a, 355 and 700r, its a tight fit on the passenger side, the flange being tight against my trans line and oil pan, but they work good. I'm running true duals with stacks tho, so can't help ya with Y pipe stuff. What model of headers? Er part number..whatever

Not sure if camaro's and Firebirds are the same, engine bay wise. My driver side one is free and clear. A little close to the cradle, but not touching anything. You may want to send em back instead of voiding any warranty by hacking em up

68470 i believe? can't remember to be honest. They were like $150 range from summit with a y pipe included. Sending them back isn't an option anymore, Ive already painted them up and road tested them for several miles.

Those are probably the same as the ones I have, minus the y-pipe. You may have gotten a bad pair or something? I'd give summit a ring and tell em what's going on, they might be able to help ya.
Being against the control arm isn't right, unless Firebirds and camaros are different. I can still spin my flange with ease on the drivers side.

accept the FACT that header companys DO NOT make headers that fit with out all kinds of stupid BS like your going through right now. that being said. you might call up "dyno dons" and do ok. but expect to spend big big money.

Re: 87 camaro header fitment issue

Just a little update. I haven't been able to really do much because of work lately but I got underneath it today and realized the y pipe is also buried into the oil pan in two spots. I forgot to mention the car is lowered 2 inches which also probably doesn't help much. I did end up getting my flanges free, by loosening the bolts all the way, and at that point i started to loosen everything to drop the y pipe. On the passenger side I was able to spin the flange for just enough clearance, and on the driver's side, when I dropped the y pipe I shoved a couple rolls of cork gasket material between it and the oil pan, and also in the driver's sidse flange. I just went for a 2 hr cruise and the car sounds awesome! No more rattling, and everything feels way more solid. Not the prettiest fix by any means but better than cutting and hacking! Hopefully this can help somebody out...
