Random question about a manifold

I was just wondering what the little pipes were coming out of the headers. and what they do, just curious. Thanks for your time.

They are for emissions. And the item with the wire lead is an O2 Sensor

Those manifolds are from a vehicle originally equipped with an A.I.R. (Air Injection Reaction) pump, commonly referred to as an air pump.

The belt driven pump takes in outside (under-hood ambient) air, and pumps it to one of two locations via a diverter valve. One location is to the manifolds, via those smaller tubes. The second location is right into the side (core) of the catalytic converter(s).

Thanks, and would it hurt anything to take the one from the cat out completely?
