New Exhaust From the Cat Back

Hey everyone, oddly enough my muffler fell off while I was driving the other day and after looking at it I realized I need everything from the catalytic converter back. Does anyone have any recommendations? Also how much do you think a shop would charge me for the job if I wanted one of those $120 Magnaflow Mufflers in it? Thank you for your time everyone!

Flowmaster and Magnaflow make great cat-back systems that you can install yourself for no cost. When you let a muffler shop hack in a muffler, it might cost as much as a whole cat back by the time they are done.

I decided to go with the dynomax, I'm on a bit of a budget so it seemed like a good idea. I also got an estimate from a shop, the guy tried charging me 750 before tax to do it with some cheap walker muffler. There was no way I'd even think about paying that much.

Since you are in NJ you should call Denny from Mufflex. They did the exhaust on my 91 Z28 and they did my S10 with a 4.3. He has also done a bunch of my friend's cars. He is a Magnaflow, Flowmaster and Spin Tech dealer

Re: New Exhaust From the Cat Back

Those packaged cat-back systems aren't very hard to put on yourself... there's no need to pay somebody to do it.

Dynomax = Walker. Same company, the one is just a "department" of the other.

Re: New Exhaust From the Cat Back

Put the Dynomax on my 88. Easy install, a llittle too loud for me but most guys would like it. Nice deep rumble. This replaced an identical system that was 10 years old, muffler was still good but the pipe rusted out. There's a how-to on here somewhere, scroll down the page for it, makes the job easy.

Re: New Exhaust From the Cat Back

Mine was the Super Turbo, the Ultra Flow (I think) is a stainless steel muffler, and it gets pretty loud over time from what I've heard on one guy's car around here. I got the whole system from Summit, WLK-17495 for about $230 shipped. Now and then there is a rebate from Dynomax/Walker on their stuff, don't know of any right now.
