Is ceramic coating worth it??????

I bought some Edelbrock TES headers off my friend a few months ago, and I wanted to get them coated by jet-hot. Every week something comes up and i dont have to money to send them and everything, so they are just sitting and annoying me.

Should I wait and coat them, or just throw them on. They wont rust through in a few months will they??

I asked what people thought of coated vs uncoated headers and I got answers like these:

lower engine bay temps
no burning of plug wires or anything else in close proximity
cool look of the coating
pretty well lasts forever

I decided to get my headers coated =)

I wish I had gotten mine, the Edelbrock will rust rather quickly, plus like said the temps under the hood will be lower. And it looks a lot better too.

Yes! Get them coated, it is worth the money. The coating will prevent rust. Rusted headers look like sh*t !

Coat them yourself

http://www.techlinecoatings.com/Exhaust.htm

They make Cermakrome (requires baking in an oven) & other coatings that don't require baking in an oven.

It is more cost effective than JetHot

It's a bit more work on your own part but (IMO) worth the $150-200 savings (if you don't have deep pockets).

Will it (Cermakrome) look as spiffy?,,, depends on your effort but most likely, not as 'oo-ah' as JetHot. Will you be the only one to know.. chances are,,, yes, if it's not a motor that you proudly display at car shows.

When you buy headers the black crap on the is NOT some special high temp paint. It's just cheap flat black paint bought by the gallon to preserve the mild steel while it sits around waiting to be shipped.

How do I know?? I used to be a welder for AFCO ( www.afcoracing.com ) for 2 years... they own Dynatech ( http://www.dynatechheaders.com/ ) I asked what the black paint was...

Headers are made from the same crap a F-body is made from... steel... sand down your car to bare metal and see how long it takes to rust... of course headers will do the same unless protected. That's the only advantage SLP has ove other header producers... they make their headers for stainless steel but.. it's still metal.. over enough given time.. even stainless steel rusts when subjected to the elements.

Would aftermarket High temp paint be better than the stock paint on the headers?
