ok, i dont have a muffler on my car, just straight pipe, and when i rev it up hard, it shoots a little bit of fire out the back, whats the cause of it, and is it bad for the car, thanks
tune your carb man. you are running rich, I think. It is really bad for it you are paying for gas your not using and it burns the plastic bumper. My friend had this happen and he has char marks.

You could have blown a Valve cover gasket , and it's sucking air in the engine, and fire is fueled by none other than oxygen. That could be your problem, if it's not then check out what the other guy before said. But it probably is a blown valve cover gasket because my buddy who is redoing a '71 camaro with a 454 with just headers right now and had the same problem and he had a blown valve cover gasket. Price is about $ 15 plus some silicon to seal the valve cover to the engine.
