Long-Tube dual vs. Shorties and Y-pipe
Long-Tube dual vs. Shorties and Y-pipe
I'm going to be doing my exhaust this June and I was wondering what everyone's opinion was. I basically can go with Heddman Shortie headers with the customer Y-pipe and a 4-inch mid-pipe and a flowmaster. My other option is to get Hooker long tube headers and go with full dual 3 inch with two flowmasters. The problem lies in that I do not know if true dual works very well on these cars. I have an '83 Trans Am HO. I hear there are problems with fitting it (the dual). I really had my heart set on true dual so I was wondering if anyone has it and if it works well. Also, one final question is that if the headers have no hole for an Oxygen sensor can I just leave it out (I'm already leaving out my cats) or do I have to make a hole. Without an Oxygen sensor will my car run poorly? Thanx for the help.
Yes you can do it very simply. No it wont be smog legal. You will lose some ground clearance.
Everyone here spouts about how you'll have no ground clearance yadda yadda.. unless you're driving over speed bumps and pine cones all the time then dont worry about it and just take it nice and easy on driveways.

If your car still has the factory computer controls, it needs the info from the O2 sensor. If not CC, you don't need the sensor.
