91 Formula Hood

Had an unfortunate accident with my 91 Formula hood today. Does anyone have one for sale? From my understanding the 82-84 Trans Am hood will work as well. Thanks!

Re: 91 Formula Hood

Also does anyone know if an 82-84 power bulge hood will work on a '91 Formula? My understanding is that the earlier power bulge hoods had air cleaner hookups but I'm not sure if they are compatible with the later third gens. Thanks!

82-92 firebird hoods are interchange, but you will need all the parts or make custom parts if you want the vent in the hood to work as intake air. The issue is more than likely going to be the duct work to the hood fitting your engine.

Great thank you! Has anyone had good luck shipping one of these hoods? If so, how did you do it and what are the best practices when it comes to shipping something like this? Thanks again for all your help.

They are basically the same hood and you can take the cowl induction system and bolt it right to the later hoods. The real difference in the early hood and the later hoods is thickness of steel. You wouldn't know this unless you have one of each. The hood on my 82 T/A is thick, heavy and tough. The hood on my 90 Formula is thin, light and flimsy.lol Gotta really be careful waxing or washing as you will bend the crap out of it. Also, the hood inserts on the early hoods are pot metal and tougher and the later ones are thin flimsy steel which is why most of them are bent and will bend easily by simply removing one.

They saved some money I'm sure, but quality went right out the window. Do yourself a favor and try to find the early stuff.

Re: 91 Formula Hood

I don't think they thinned it until after 89. My 80 is heavy and the insert is heavy pot metal. Probably for the design refresh for the last few years.
