No, I don’t think your memory was off, I’m pretty sure that one of the rags printed that it has gone in the 320 range, but hasn’t done it for an average yet, so it’s not official.

And that was the second one that I was thinking about and I stand by what I said earlier. I wouldn’t get too hung up on “stock” anything there… all sorts of obviously not stock stuff on that car has been reported as stock, and I looking at the fastners and assorted other good stuff all over that body I would seriously doubt that anything is stock on that car.

Cool car. Think this one should be on the "Ultimate F-Body Forum." Stock meaning it's not a tube chassis with a fiberglass shell, is my guess. Callaway got an '80's Vette to do 257 mph, with a twin turbo V8, 200lbs of sand in the back, and special clips to keep the windows from being sucked out. It was called The Sledgehammer. Read the link, and yes with the stock wing, the car was steady at 300mph, when theoretically, it should have been "flying." Yikes.

It was probably the extra weight over the rear wheels more than downforce; the stock Aerowing is heavy as hell! I've driven my TA sans Aerowing (going with something different), and could tell no real difference. A toolbox in the rear hatch area would probably give similar results.
The most effective F-body rear spoiler, downforce wise, was the Mecham wing. If ANYBODY has one for sale or trade, please PM me!

I tend to think even the stock wings have some effect, although I'm not going to pull mine off to find out. But yeah, the Mecham Racing wing definitely looks like it would create downforce. I saw an MSE Firebird a while back, had the wing. Here are some pics. I know we are a little off topic here, but this is interesting. im pretty sure this is a lost cause question but, how much air do you think flows thru the front air vents on that hood? i only ask because im schedualing putting a 3.8 l67 from a gtp into a firebird. i figure in my 4door 3900lb gtp i do 12.4 i think a light firebird would be better and i could mount my intercooler rad. angled with the hood vents. i was thinking shaker setup to put the aircleaner off the supercharger and thats damn sweet so now im definitly gonna do it. the only thing was the intercooler rad on my gtp is front mounted and i dont think i would get the same airflow in the front of a bird. i will add a fan anyway but i figured id ask.

if you drop that wing to about an inch maybe 2 lower than the roof you will increase the performance of it.

stage 1x cam, 1.7 exhaust rockers, 105 springs, stage 1 blower, custom ported intake, custom manifolds, 3.0 pulley, stage 1 throttlebody, stage 1 pcm, stage 1 intercooler, 3range plugs, cai, custom 3" exhaust system, shift kit.

my plan for the firebird is: l67 block .30 over , diamond pistons, intense stage 2x blower cam &lifters, intense stage 3 heads, or pushrods, zzp gen 2 intercooler, gen 5 blower, 2.8 pulley, rwd headers, 45lb injectors. well thats so far. it could be a little different depending on what comes out in the meantime.

IMO.. ugliest (still damn fast) freaking musclecar ever created.. but a LOT of people love that car.. and that's a '69.. high rise.. way before the import r i c e r scene.. (i dont like it, but it DOES have its roots here!)

EDIT: Not trying to say his car is ugly (was commenting on the Daytona). I think it looks good, i just personally dont like the higher spoiler. But it does look good and matches great with the rims and the paint. The shaker looks sweet *** and gives the newer (rims and pain mainly) look that nostalgic flavor.

Badass Superbird, think those things could hit nearly 200mph. Not bad for more than thirty years ago. Just saw an article somewhere on Lemans GT class, I think, racing Vipers, and other high end sports cars, big wings all around. They do serve a purpose, just not on an 80hp economy car, which is where you see them most, for some strange reason. Compensating, I guess...

Ok, laugh now, but I've often wanted to put two big F16 rudder wings on the back of my bird, and a couple of smaller sidewinder fins on the nose. That's after considerable mods, of course. Could even have your rear wing split in half, fold out into the two angled fins, and a NASCAR type lip folds up in the back for "Pursuit Mode!" Not like I'd really do it......Used to have this neighbor, a really nice old man, and every time he would see the Firebird, he'd say, "Where are the wings?" I'm ordering them from Hawk's, heh heh heh...

Yea but they look rediculous, lol. And that was the NASCAR race prepped versions that ran near 200mph, not the street cars. The street cars didn't do anything much differently than a Charger R/T or a Road Runner with the same engine (440-4, 440-6, Hemi)
