Custom Coil Over
I posted in the suspension as well... here are pics of my coil over system I designed. If anyone is interested in the specs I will be more than happy to answer any Q's.

If you do a search for coil over sleeves on the net you can find plenty of them. They are only about $30 each… nuts are cheap too. The bearings took me some more time to find but that was because I need the right dimensions.
Here is one example:
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/produc...No=1&redirect=
The aluminum is 6061, bottom plate is ˝ inch. The top was machined from a 4 ˝ inch square block. The two pices were beveled at 45 deg so that they fit together perfectly, then tacked only in three small locations to keep the destruction of the heat treating to a minimum. The strength of these plates should be the equivalent to Ľ” mild steal all the way around. The bottom plate is Ľ 6061 aluminum. It doesn’t need to be overly thick because it mostly just spreads the weight around a larger SA. I replaced the Ľ “bolts with 3/8 grade 8 bolts. As you can see I had the spring mount into the strut tower itself. This is what gives me the use of extra long springs and the ability to drop my car on command without having to use drop shocks… I wanted to use what ever shock and spring combination without needing to worry about my ride height. Right now I have 10” Q1A 225 – 475 progressive springs. I want to have a custom 200 - 500 12” spring made. When the car is lowered, as you see it in the picture, I have 3” of travel… hence the importance of progressive springs. If I have 2” of ground clearance (due to that stupid PA K-Member; I am going to make my own and do it right which will put my ground effects as the lowest part on the car) and three inches of travel, I run the risk of bottoming the K member if I use a really light spring… but on the street you need a light spring… so I have the best of both worlds. My fisrt ˝ - 1” of travel will absorb most road inconsistencies and larger bumps… the last two are very hard to compress (my car is much lighter than a stock Iroc). That stiffness is also very important for high speed turns. For the approximate spring rate on a non-coil over car just multiply the coil over by two) So, at the last inch of travel my car has the equivalent of 950 lb per in springs. I can’t wait to get it on a road race track this summer and see how it corners at 150. Its great around the street.
Just so you know, the aluminum itself was over $350 to do this… but I wanted the weight savings and looks. The carbon fiber bearings I am using seem to be great.

What struts are you using with the coil overs now?Are you using the same sleeves in the link? Im asking because I measured the O.D. of the crappy KYB's I have on now and It came out to 2.18"O.D. I want to make sure that a 2in sleeve will fit over the struts before I buy them.

I am using KYB AGX Adjustable Gas Shocks; the sleeves are from one of the countless kits I have bought. If I were to guess which ones I am using now I would say it is from the AJE coil over kit… but I can’t find there site anymore… I believe this is the same kit.

How sure are you that the strut is 2.18… so that make is 2 and 3/16”? I haven't measured my diameter... but most sleeves I have seen measure 2.055 ID.
The only place I could find that has a kit that claims to fit any type of strut is Strange Engineering.

The pic they show looks a lot like the PA kit. I was able to find sleeves from Strange Engineering: here is the only pic of them. You will see a picture of them on the bottom right with a yellow “NEW” sign.

It looks like summit is selling that coil over kit for $80. But I can’t find the ID

I would give summit a call first and see what they say… or you can just call strange engineering and ask them.
The qa1 60 series sleeves may also work. The 60 series shock is a “large body” and the sleeves are intended for a 2.5” ID spring. I have looked through QA1’s catalog but they don’t give any of the diameters. So you will need to call. They are selling for half of what they SE kit is selling for.
Let me know what they say… and if I get a chance I will measure mine.
