perforated sheet metal
Does anyone know where I can purchase small quantities of perforated sheet metal. The local hardware stores don't have what I am looking for and every place online seems to want to sell uncut sheets.

I walked into a welding shop in my town by the industrial park and asked if I could buy a piece of metal. The place i went does not sell anything out of the shop, but I tossed the guy 40 bucks and he handed me the metal I wanted. Def the easiest way to get metal sheet.

Are you talking about expanded metal sheets? Any good steel supplier will have them AND will cut them to the size you want....however, sometimes their cut charge doesn't make it worth it...so you end up with a whole sheet or a drop.

Yeah I am not sure what expanded metal it. All I know is that if you have some cash and know of an industrial area, swing by it and you can walk away with whatever you were looking for. Chances are their scraps will be big enough for whatever hole u need to patch or what not.

I'm not looking for expanded metal. I'm talking about the stuff that has holes punched in it.
I came up with a good idea last night. Office furniture is sometimes made of that stuff so I am going to try to find a waste basket, something cheap, and cut it up.
I can buy the piece I want to make for about $40.00.
The design of the metal is what's hard to find. Hole diameter, spacing, gauge, material, etc. The local places don't have much in stock. What they do have is not close enough.

Ohhhhhhhh, ok wow. I had no idea what you were talking about. Yeah the metal guys around town might not have that. Google it. I bet there are website that only sell that stuff.

Thanks! I'll give them both a try.
I haven't had any luck finding a wast basket to cut up.
How does your muffler sound, deadbird? It looks neat.

That particular one was for a friends v6 car.
He had a flowmaster that was geh! sounding.
This one, after a little driving time, sounds quite better than I'd have imagined. It's really pretty low key/subtle (IMO) quiet (deep) up to the point of getting on it/high rpms... then it's like any muffler with a perf core... 'open exhaust'.
I'd really like to hear it on a v8 (like a stock 305) just for curiousity sake but, probably won't happen.

ha that exhuast at lets say wide open over 3000 rpms is pretty bad, only thing that makes me feel ok about it is there is nothing i can do about it unlike all the cars around here that want to sound like that lol
however low crusing rpms and small snaps on the throttle do sound nice and deep....if i could just keep the exhuast leaks from happening id be happy with it
still trying to find something i can be happy with at all rpms so ya never know maybe we will here what that sounds like on one of our 305s
i could always go back to the headers into the Tractor muffler
any pics of that?

I don't think there's anything out there that cures that horrid v6 resonance at the 3ish range. You even hear that 'gwaaa' sound from bone stock exhaust.
But, this isn't the post for that I suppose....
