Just wondering if the column lock can be removed? If it can be removed and the ignition cylinder can be removed then with some mods to the column it will look a lot cleaner. I have some other security measures in place, so I am going with a push button starter. And a hidden ignition switch.

You can remove the ignition lock cylinder fairly easily. How you deal with the hole is another thing entirely. The upper column bowl is plastic, so that may make things a little easier.

The other consideration is that the ignition switch is operated by this lock cylinder, as is the locking mechanism for the steering wheel is also operated by this lock cylinder. All that locking mechanism can be removed, and I suppose you could install a different switch with all switched circuits necessary to operate in the various positions. The START function of the factory switch also closes contacts for bulb test, accessory bypass, etcetera. The RUN position of the factory switch has multiple contacts for several circuits. As long as you can emulate all this with a separate switch, you should have no problems.

Any idea where I can find the wiring schematic for the ignition cylinder wiring?

Can you remove the steering wheel lock without causing problems?

If so, how?

the ignition wiring is at the switch which is no where near the key switch, the ignition switch is mounted on the column housing under the dash and a rod switches it, the rod moves by movement of the key switch

the lock plate is what locks the steering wheel

it is held in place to the steering column shaft by a round hog ring

you need a lock plate depressor tool for about 15 bucks at the local auto parts store
