Started making some sub frame connectors

Got the driver's side done since it was the easy one About to start on the other side. Material is 1.75 square .120 wall. Even while mocking it up to cut the front angles, every time I'd put pressure on it while the rear was anchored, the car would creek and groan taking the sag out of it (it's up on a 2 post lift) Yes I do plan on having the car supported properly when welding them in and not on the lift Anyway, here's some pics of the progress.

Here's the driver's side. Planning on putting another bit in at the front like Spohn has done to tie in where the crossmember is.

The step is there because of the ribs in the floor. The main part sits in the channel by the rocker panel and the stepped part will be on top of those ribs.

This bolts up to the rear LCA bolt and ties in that a little.

wow, that's lookin' excellent! welder looks just a smidge hot, but there is excellent penetration there and it'll take alot of abuse before that thing is coming apart! you planning to tie the roll bar into it? (assuming your still planning an 8pt.)

I might tie it into the roll bar, probably be smart but we'll see once it starts going in. Had the welder cranked up high just to make dang sure it was getting good penetration hehe, backed it off since then though. Still learning to weld but I feel confident enough to make these parts, puting them on the car will be fun though. Btw, thought this was 1.75 square but turns out it's 1.5, oops. Still, every bit helps. Almost have the passenger side one done, just need to make the bracket to tie into the LCA bolt.

Passenger side is done and was actually easier than the driver's side. Didn't have to match up the one end as much to fit the tie in spot. Not sure if I'll be able to get these on this week or not, going to try though.

Should be the same and lucky me, I don't have to worry about a y-pipe. Might be able to do what Spohn does and neck down the size of the tube near the y-pipe for clearance. Just came from your shaker hood thread, looks like you're doing a nice job on it

Yeah thanks , I'm afraid I'm going to have to do some cut and welding on that air cleaner base to achieve the correct profile. About the SFC'S, I've always imagined having a section of round pipe on the pass. sfc and feeding that Y- pipe through it. Sounds crazy, but I think with the right gauge of steel it would good and strong.

Got them on the day before heading to the track, they held on hehe. The car seems to twist less than before so I guess they worked.

A TIG would have been a lot smoother, cleaner weld than that (at least in the hands of an experienced weldor).

That's some nice welds for a MIG welder.

Didn't write any plans down, just started to make stuff Started with those flat metal bits first, bent them into shape, bolted them on the car and started to measure for the square tube. Tacked things together then did a final weld after everything fit right.

Could the next person who does these make a set of rough blueprints? That would be great.

do you have a way to pic how and where you qattached these to tehh car unde there and how they are positioned exactly

sounds liek they run right along the rockers basically and bolt to the lower LCA bolts ?

the big pivot bolts ?

or?

very neat

in fact if anyone has pics of installed connectors of any kind homemade or not then can you post them or link to them ?

thanks

Basicly like his ^^^ The rear bolt attachment is with the LCA bolt, just take it out, slip the SFC up into place, place bolt back. Made it nice for holding it up into position for welding. Still have to do the cross bits that tie into near the trans, might do that over the weekend.
