T-Tops
T-Tops
I've hit the search here, and found nil...
Also, camaroforums.com has left me with more nil...
Is it possible to have T-Tops installed into a 87 that has naught? Or would I have to find another with T-Tops?
BTW, I think this is my first post here. I got an 87 z w/ 305 over summer. My dream car, since I was about 9 years old, has been an 87 IROC w/ T-Tops. Therefore, since I was able to get an 87 for cheap, I'm hoping to be able to get my dream car since I'm neither married nor have children, thus more spendable money than otherwise.
I also hope to DIY junkyard turbo my car, to beat my former friend-turned-rival's 80 w/ cammed 350.
I apologize if I've just missed where I should look for this subject, but I've looked everywhere I can think and figure that someone here can just tell me. Maybe someone has done this and would have tips??
Thanks again

Hi I did some digging and think I found what you're looking for in this thread....
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/fabr...top+conversion
seems it can be done but it's no small feat, you have to do alot of cutting and welding.
There's more info if you do a search for "t-top conversion" be sure to use quotation marks when you search or nothing comes up.
hope this helps you out

thanks... seems like a lot of work I lack the tools for. Oh well, maybe someday... or maybe I can find an 87 T-Top frame somewhere. Till then, its just more savin up money and not getting much done other than research.
Poop.
On a brighter note, at least it can be done

I'm interested in doing this conversion someday. For the people that have done this, is it necessary to cut the entire roof off or can you just cut from a little after the window to almost the windshield? sorry for the vagueness. I'm in class right now and I can't picture exactally what I'm trying to say.
thanks

From what I can tell it looks like you have to use the whole roof, you can't just use the T section. It's a structural issue.
T-top cars have strong bracing along the roofline and if you don't use the whole roof you'll lose too much of it and it may flex too much.
My car Had t-tops from the factory so I haven't needed to do the swap, but several guys have done it successfully. There was even a place that offered to do it for you, but the page where they advertised the service is gone.
You may be able to get a custom body shop to do it, I have no idea how much they would charge though.
