Pushbutton installed.
I couldnt figure out an issue with my new engine build, and the key not starting the engine. So I went pushbutton after all my patience had expired.
Let me know what you think. It is wired off ignition on, so the key still needs to be in place.

I did the same thing on an old camaro I had. Only diff. was I make it look like I still had a lighter and used that to push.

Re: Pushbutton installed.
just make sure the other end of the wire runs from an ignition only source, not a constant 12volts. Thats if, you want to still need the key to start it
and for the button install, It was an old button from my mccord cutout valve I used to have, it fit perfect in the cigarette lighter socket. I removed the socket, and hollowed it out so it still installs but allows wires to run through it to the button.

Re: Pushbutton installed.
You never could get the car to run off of the key?
I was following a whole bunch of your post because i am at the same point as you with the wiring. Just yesterday i got my starter to crank. Are you sure vats was not to blame? It still controls the starter enable relay, if you ground the yellow/black wire from the relay it should allow the starter to crank over.
Either way that looks good.

No I couldnt. The yellow wiring coming from the ignition switch did not have 12volts when I had the key on crank.

Yeah, I had to wire it so there's no power while the car is running just in case someone was button-happy I wouldn't be replacing starters/flywheels often. Member

Re: Pushbutton installed.
i like the button its cool...by the way if your camaro is a 89 or newer it problably has the stupid key with the chip in it. if the coil or whatever it is goes out you cannot start your car. that pos is located behind your kickpanel and black taped over in the fender wall on the drivers side. it just matches resistance i believe...

Re: Pushbutton installed.
i do have vats, but my car is far from stock, it worked fine when i parked it, but since then ive ditched all GM harness and went with an accel engine harness and megasquirt ecu. and now the car doesnt crank with the key 1 year later..
coincidence? maybe.. hatch button doesnt work either and I know that has to do with the same circuit as starting the car. I'll figure it out eventually.

Re: Pushbutton installed.
Is it wired to automatically shut off when the engine fires? It doesn't look like a momentary switch...

Re: Pushbutton installed.
Mine's hooked up to a relay that loses it's ground once 12v is supplied when the car is running.

Re: Pushbutton installed.
These are neat & all, but I don't see the point in them...
If you still hafta put the key in the ignition & turn it, the push button just makes it longer to start the car. You've already go the key in & are turning it to the On position, turn a little more & the car is started.
I'll be impressed when the steering lock is defeated (by deletion or electric solenoid to unlock it) & only the push of a button is needed to start the car. FOB is optional for security, for this.

Re: Pushbutton installed.
You can easily rig it that way by removing the ignition lock cylinder. I chose to keep the cylinder because I wanted to have it function the exact same way it does in the S2000. I didn't do it to make starting the car faster, just because it's different. Besides, starting my car takes awhile anyways. Every time I turn the car to the "On" position I have to wait for my WB O2 to warm up and calibrate (~30 seconds or so) before I fire off the car.

Re: Pushbutton installed.
Name? There isn't any specific name for it from what I understand. It's just the standard relay used for pretty much everything. Same style that comes in those universal headlight wiring kits or the same ones you get at parts stores as a universal relay in the wiring section out on the sales floor.
