Well since the access door was already partly there..
I decided to fix the hack job the guys did to the trunk of my car and covered with duck tape. They cut the hole then realized how the lines were set up and wound up dropping the tank anyway (says the previous owner). So i cleaned up the hole and bolted sheetmetal over it..still didnt like it. So today i took stainless steel, made a "picture frame" around the hole and welded it in the trunk (yes i welded near the tank and no it didnt blow up). I painted in black so it was alittle less noticeable. The cover is made of sheet metal, black paint didnt stick too well to it so i may just lead it that way and just get some sticker letters and write fuel pump access or something on it. I need to make a new door but i ran out of sheet metal and was getting alittle anxious to finish. Now as far as mounting the door down goes, i realized the seal doesnt have to be super tight or anything (just having duct tape over it kept the fumes out) So i cut small pieces of velcro and layed them around the edge. I cut a rectangular piece of rubber and glued it to the back of the sheet metal and laid it on, worked like a charm. Keeps the sound and fumes out just fine and looks from what i can tell, clean and unmolested.

thanks, originally it was like in the shape of a trapizoid, they hacked it up bad..luckily i was able to straighten it into the more traditional rectangular access door

Looks great.
I am planning on doing something similar to mine.
I cut mine up, not bad though. I didn't have a lot of time to do it.
I was thinking of putting some type of hinge on the front of it.
Then some type of rubber seal, and a latch of some sort.
That will be a while though.

Looks good, like the frame idea as reinforcement, just one question, is the door not permanently attached? Later.
