under hood insulation

I read about removing underhood insulation and replacing it w/reflective insulation; the 3m stuff reflective. My iroc insulation is old and shaggy. Does anybody know about doing this? Any other suggestions besides buying a new one for $85.00??

Re: under hood insulation

Could always paint it, did that with my stock hood before my paint job and my new hood. If your worried about heat you could use heat-resistant paint or heat-resistant enamel. I haven't painted my fiberglass under but I think I'd use the enamel would probably look better then the regular paint.

OK, so go to NAPA and get the reflective underhood insulation, I got the same on my El Camino. To remove the old insulation just pull off the old black insulation and the tabs. then use the shiny tape that comes with the reflective insulation and tape it to the under side of the hood. You can still use the tabs if you wish to better hold up the new insulation.

Re: under hood insulation

You talked me into it RS. I'll check out the napa stuff. It might be the same as the 3m stuff you can get at a low's. You know, the stuff you wrap water heaters, and other hot stuff.
