After working with my first TPI motor and reading about it it seems that the general oppinion on this system is that the MAP style TPI system is better than the MAF style. It seems the primary reason is being that they are a restriction that is eliminated in the MAP style system. They are also crazy expencive and kind of a pain in a show car when you want things as clean as possable but thoes are more secondary reasons supporting going with a MAF system. It seems otherwise MAF is a nice set up as it directly measures the incomming air instead of just guessing like the MAP system makeing it pretty tolerant to mods. It seems common people will remove the screens and grind off heat sinks but all that shortens the MAF sensors life and for some people complain that it effect their readings. So after thinking about it for a moment has anyone conciderend installing a dual MAF set up and summing the output values of the 2 MAF sensors and sending the result back to the ECM? Personally I wouldnt do it as it would be hyper expencive unless you got a really good deal on a pair (or on one plus the one you already have) but for someone working with a MAF style TPI system in a hopped up application where something like this would really make a difference it seems like it would be something someone would have already thought of? It wouldnt be hard to create a summing amplifierto sum the sensors output just seems odd ive never heard of it being done befor. Has this ever been done befor or even concidered as a possability?

First, this should be in the DFI/Tuning board, not fabrication

Next, yes it has been considered and for one reason or another, dismissed from the excessive complexity

Solutions range from modifying the stock - de-screening to re-casing with a larger tube - to replacing it with a larger unit, whether GM or aftermarket and modifying the MAF tables

That being said, most people do NOT switch to SD because they think the MAF is a restriction. They upgrade for 1) simplicity, show cars, street rods etc and 2) more advanced ECM/program with more tuning support

If the MAF still bugs you that much, upgrade to SD. Its alot easier than attempting a dual MAF setup or any other wierd change. Or you can go with an even newer PCM such as the LS1, which you can read about in the sticky on the TPI forum

Well personally i dont really care about it as i only have a stock 305 TPI not really pushing the MAF sensor to its limits lol. But it seems to me that many people complain that its a restriction and i really dont think it would be very difficult to do. Granted it may be more involved than its worth to people or too expencive to justify but not that difficult. Granted I also happen to be an electronic engineer so that helps alittle bit but really designing a circuit to supply power to run to MAFs and then sum the result of the two sensor outputs wouldnt be such a horrable task if it would offer a serious advantage. I was mainly just wondering if anyone had concidered it as a possability. Personally ide just swap to the LS1 ECM rather than go SD but would concider doing dual MAFs if it became a problem befor eather of the two if i was so inclined to change anything.

As is im 99% sure it wont work as is. Being that i dont have much experiance with the LS1 MAF or how it works however if it works similar to our MAFs in the sence the output is a voltage im sure it could be adaped to our MAFs 0-5 v range. If it would be worth doing I cant say but just about anything can be done with electronics just a matter of time and expence.
