Cover for distributor...would this work?

Okay, I've had some recent problems involving water and my distributor. In the interest of keeping my distributor clean and dry in the future, I've been looking for some sort of cover to put over it.

I was looking at the dust cover MSD makes for theirs, but I'm not sure I have the money to get the whole deal unless it turns out there's something (other than moisture) wrong with the one I currently have that makes a replacement necessary; wasn't sure if the MSD dust cover would fit on an OEM distributor (I have a 305 TBI).

Another possibility I've looked at that was suggested by a mechanic I talked to recently was to get one of the rubber distributor covers that used to come on 80's-early '90's Mustang GTs and put that on. Again, though- I'm not positive it would fit.

Anyone know if either/both of these would work or perhaps have other suggestions for me?

Thanks much!

How is your distributor getting wet to begin with?

When I had it restored after wrecking it, I got a 2 1/2" cowl hood. While it does have the ledge thing underneath the hood where it attaches to the car that's supposed to prevent water from getting everywhere, there's still enough space for water to trickle down my windshield to the distributor.

I didn't realize it until I was hand-washing and waxing my car last week for the first time since it was repainted and it started acting up right after (messed up idle and running very poorly). I have a topic on the General Tech board about it.

From what I've found from Google searching, wet distributor problems seem somewhat common for some cars (like Camrys).

And there's also the possibility that my cap is cracked, which I am currently addressing. I figured it couldn't hurt to take extra preventative steps for the future, though.

I be the covers used on the tauruses would work on a small cap chevy... not sure that the mustang one would fit a large cap or not.

I'd probably try some silicon dielectric compound on the plug boots and harness connections first to see if that solves the problem
