modified gas tank

I have been reading and its seems like it would be a huge pain to get the 4th gen fuel gauge to work after swapping in a 4th gen tank. MY question is would it be possible to use the third gen pump in the 4th gen tank by cutting the pump mount from the 3rd gen and somehow attaching it to the new tank. I know that there would have to be steps taken to ensure that the tank wouldn't leak and would be pressure tested. what do you think?

Re: modified gas tank

well if you can take the 3rd gen (metal) tank mount and adapt to the 4th gen (plastic) tank mount please post how as I've never seen it done.

Re: modified gas tank

I know that they are made of different material. My plans were to cut the 3rd gen pump mount about 2 inches bigger than the actual pump hole and then make a same size ring which would go on the inside and bolt them together sandwiching the 4th gen tank between them. Make sense?
