contact AlHasse, last time I checked he had his headlights all plotted out for some durable halos, kind of like the new Camaro.

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

steer clear of those ebay "projector" lights, theyre absolute crap and will have worse output than stock.

if you want HID lighting youll have to mod the ebay housings to fit actual HID projectors in there. or there is a company that makes a HID projector in a 4x6 housing. they run like $180 for the pair, and are for lowbeams only.

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

Hmm.. I have no trouble modding stuff, and thanks for the tip on the ebay ones ..

The co yur talking about, do they make the high beams too? Sux buying $400 worth of light bulbs though lol..

I'm on my cell still, I'll have to look for projectors, I really don't mind modding and would almost prefer it.. any preference on the projectors? Oddly enough, I haven't done any research yet aside from this

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

nope, the only make projector light with a fixed cut off, for the high beams you need a projector with a lil actuator to move part of the cut off for the bright function. as far as projectors. a good set of d2s projectors can be found on ebay for about $100.

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

those arent bad just for an athestic point, as far as light output, probably not much better than stock sealed beams.

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

Back in town.. long weekend with the family,

thanks guys, i like the ones in the link to, their h4, which is i think about equivalent to stock bulbs, but you can always get the sylvania silver whatever's which are a lot brighter in the h4's than the normal h4's or the rectangle sealed bulbs that go in these stock..

the only problem i have with them is that they are not focused, so they'd be illegal here if i put HID's in them.

also, i do like the halo's......... but..... those are either legal or illegal depending upon the county, and it really makes a difference what color they are. if they are white or "crystal blue" they are legal... my county it's legal, go one county north and it's not. nor are LED's or neon... both legal here though.. you never really know which one is or isn't, so you always run the chance of getting pulled over for that too.

The thing is though, despite the fact that i have HID's on my bike, i wasn't the one that installed them, the previous owner did, so i don't know much about them per say.

There's a low and a high beam, they are 2 separate bulbs and they fit in an h4 slot...

one of them is a regular reflective style light (which is illegal) and the high beam IS a focused beam (legal)

[i get away with it being illegal for 3 reasons.
1. it's a motorcycle and their inherently dangerous, so cops leave me alone, especially at night.
2. There's only 1 light, not 2, so it's harder to tell if it's ACTUALLY as bright as you think it is at night / how far you are in relation to the brightness
3. they are WHITE, not purple or green or any of that other crap that people do for whatever reason.... so it's not as easy to tell that they are HID.]

so, i don't know if one is ACTUALLY brighter or if they are both the same but one is focused and the other isn't. i'm pretty sure that one is actually brighter than the other. a kit i installed for someone else DID had 2 totally different bulbs.. i didn't pick the kit out, and knew nothing about it, i just installed it.

the point is, when i go to buy a kit, i don't REALLY know what to look for, i just know i hate driving a car when i can only see 25 feet in front of me, especially, if you cant see the ground for 15 of the 20 because of the long flat hood. Having owned several cars with these style headlights in the past, i KNOW they suck... so i need an upgrade. not to mention the cool factor. lol

i'll probably pull my grill out and stick some flood lights in their too lol.

don't need fog lights, it rarely ever fogs... so a few 4 million candlepower flood lights should suffice.

j/k (i think)

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

if you wanna be able to REALLY see at night, then HID are the best option. REtro fit your own projectors in the cheap ebay housings and get a HID and balast kit from ddm tuning for cheap for whatever bulb style you get for the projectors. youll be able to see a lot further than stock and with the built in cut off, you wont be blinding the crap out of everyone else on the road to boot.

I have bad night vision also and I absolutely HATE these a-holes blinding me with their stupidly bright headlights. Makes it hard for me to see where Im going.

But Im perfectly happy with my bulbs. Theyre noticably better than what I see other stock thirdgens doing lightingwise, but they have a very low key hue to them. Just looks like a 90s car headlight instead of an 80s car one. The brights are OMFG bright, though. More than happy with them. I dont see a need for blue lights and the ability to blind people. But that's just a personal peeve of mine.

But I don't think they even sell headlights ilke mine anymore. The previous owner installed em on my car. I never really took much notice of them but when you see them next to a factory headlighted car it's amazing how much better they look.

But if you want crazy bright like all these new Lexuses and BMW's, you wont be too impressed. They light about as well as my 2000 GMC Sierra, which makes sense since they use the same bulb. There is a little less peripheral light, but that's just because our headlights are side-shrouded by the bumper cover. But I will say it IS very nice to just be able to pop the bulb out when one goes out instead of having to mess with the whole housing.

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

yeah, i feel ya....

i hate it when people put xenon bulbs in stock housings and blind the crap out of me, especially when it's an offensive color like purple or something stupid, and of course it'll be a 80's honda civic with neon and a fart pipe when you finally pass them...

i actually saw one of these, and no joke, they PAINTED the word

"VEE-TECK" on the side of the door... with a stencil.

............. yeh......

anyway,

i'm pretty sure this is what you have

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1985-1992-CH...ht_4480wt_1163

or something similar if not..

and that's something i never thought of. these lights are inset, so there IS a low peripheral. dang...

Honestly, at this point, i've seen my car, driven my car, never had it out at night.

i posted the story about it on other threads, but, my dad picked it up from a lady, i'm out there fixing a few things, then have to get it registered. i should have it in my possession in the next week or two, just in time for it to potentially start raining and getting cold - which as mentioned either here or in other posts, i really look forward to vs riding my bike through another winter.

but yeah, i never thought about the peripheral lighting... My 00' didn't have an issue because of the way the headlight is shaped.. it's not inset (as you know)

but even that, the 00' wasn't really bright enough for my taste either, and the fog lights pretty much didn't do anything worth mentioning. they were just there for looks more than anything.

hmm..

but as for HID's vs 9004, and vs the 4x6 stock sealed sodium vapor bulbs, (or whatever the hell they are)

i think no matter what i'm trashing the 4x6's as soon as possible. as you said, it would suck having to pull the whole damn assembly out to change a bulb instead of twisting a little h3 bulb out sounds a lot more appealing.

by the way, i did see the thread recently where the guy put the bmw lights on his car, i think it's pretty cool, but i just don't have the money for all of that right now. i'd rather spend 30 bucks on some cheap ebay lights and put some sylvania bulbs in it for the time being i guess.... or spend another 40 on the hid's...

the main concern i have though is that i've been reading everyone's feedback on ebay, and the people who sell these things seem to ALL be pretty shady, and they have TONS of negative feedback about getting damaged bulbs, burned out ballasts, or flat out never getting their packages...

and usually, i'm the one that happens to when i buy that kind of crap...

so, i don't know yet.....

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

If you go with ebay housing, dont get the "projector" ones, and dont bother putting HID kits on them unless you retro fit in a projector. The non projector ebay housing with upgraded bulbs doesnt do too bad.

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

Like I said, my low beams are pretty standard fare. For getting around town and busy streets at night they work as well as any other modern car. The high beams are VERY bright though especially since all 4 lights are on. But the advantage is that we have a completely separate housing for high beams, so you can aim those high beams... REALLY high, independently of the low beams.

Re: does anyone have aftermkt headlights?

you said they use 9004's right? do they make a 9004 low and 9004 high? (i don't mean low/high dual filament... i mean single filament, low or high) or are they the same bulb on all 4 of the lights?

or 9004 low and something else for high?

i'm thinking of using dual filament bulbs for the low beam, and single filament for the highs.

when it's on low, the 1 filament would light up, when on high, all 3 light...

it sounds stupid and noobish reading it back, but, i've done it on several cars in the past, and i'm always happy with the results.. it's not HID, but it's a lot brighter anyway. and since high beams aren't used all that often compared to low beams, it shouldn't really kill the life of the bulbs much more than normal use.

eeh.... i guess i'll figure it out when i get the car here and start ripping it apart.
