Lighted LED Bowtie

This might not be for all, but thought it was different. I basically got the idea from the Impala SS guys, they take out their bowtie emblem from the center of their grill, and wire in a LED bowtie. I started with a stock front piece off the Z, sanded down the bowtie that was on it, used a block that the Impy guys use for an aftermarket grill that has a recessed area for the LED to sit in, cut the block down, V'eed the back out to fit the 3rd gen nose piece, bonded it into place, sanded, filled, primered and painted it to look like it was molded into the plastic piece. Them mounted it back into the car, and ran wires and a dedicated switch to the cabin so it is independent of all the other lites. Just something to do during the winter months.

Re: Lighted LED Bowtie

For those who may not be paying attention, the LS6 engine is not in the third gen. Still looks like a good modification to be different from all the others. I was never a fan of all the cosmetic engine covers so you can't see the engine.

Re: Lighted LED Bowtie

Yea guess I should clarify, the ENGINE COVER is off of my LS-6 powered CTS-V Cadillac, not on the Camaro. I just threw it out there because it was part of my fab process this winter, as well as the lighted bowtie!!

Yea that is why it is on its own switch, seperate from the rest of the lights, and it will prob be a parking thing, I don't drive it much at night.

I see. That's a very cool mod. To bad maryland requires you to have your tag in front

Just like Texas, but that doesn't mean it has to be right there blocking the bowtie. I mounted mine using 1 scrap pieces of aluminum & it uses 2 existing bolts under the nose so no new holes were needed. And no, it doesn't blow backwards & scratch the paint when driving.

I think that looks great. Just to be on the safe side, I'd have to go with the white or amber. Great job of fabbing that up

Most of the Impy SS guys run red, I think once again for parking, cruise night, shows etc. Esp at Carlisle, the Hotel parking lot is full of LED Bowties!.

Alabama is a one plate State so when time and money co-exist, I will have a white or amber lighted bowtie on the front of my 'vert.

I bought my brother's 94 Impala SS. Unfortunately he passed away from stomach cancer in December, and his step-son did not want it or would show/maintain it like he would, so I was offered it. It is a big beast, but very cool.

6 speed swap, two-tone leather interior, Dennys alloy driveshaft, 4.56 rear gears, driveshaft loop, camaro dash mod, and he always wanted to come to Carlisle but never made it, so this is his his tribute year, and we are bringing it.

But I will be up in the third gen area and will look for you. My son will be up there in that area with the CTS-V we are bringing also.

Re: Lighted LED Bowtie

Sorry to hear about your brother. It's nice to hear that you're carrying on the custodianship of the car. I always love to check out 6 speed Impalas, so I'll have to check it out if I get there this year. Right now my buddy is still trying to decide if he can afford to go this year, and I'm not making the haul alone.
