B pillar harness bar, good idea or no?

B pillar harness bar, good idea or no?
I was at a World of Wheels show here in Milwaukee and saw a car with this in it. Looked like a piece of 1 1/2" pipe welded to each side and thats what the harnesses were attached to, no cage or anything. My question is if it's a bad idea, unsafe, plain stupid, ect... I'm aware that a roll bar is a better route and that this won't be track legal but being in school and working part time can drain your wallet

It's not track legal and dangerous for anyone in you backseat for a street car. No redeeming qualities other than cheap/easy

Well the last pic shows it being removable. So back seat danger is out. I don't see why this wouldn't stiffen up the overall body structure. I don't think it is a bad idea, as long as you are not racing.
