Aftermarket Speedometer Question
I'm not sure where to post this so I'll post it under fabrication. That is, after all, what I'm doing.
I'm building my custom gauge cluster and have an older Auto Meter mechanical speedometer. This is to take the place of the mechanical speedometer from my 86 Coupe.
What I've found is that the OEM speedo has the cable held in place with a clip whereas the Auto Meter speedo has a threaded hub.
My question is: Is there an aftermarket adapter to connect one to the other or am I forced into building a new speedo cable that has the threaded connector on the dash board end?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Aftermarket Speedometer Question
I have not seen an adapter. When I used my autometer 5" 200mph mech. speedo I went to the local Napa auto parts with my speedo in hand and the guy looked at it, tried a few threaded cables on and found what I needed, but didn't have the right length in stock so he ordered me one. $18 and pick it up the next day. Worked great.. Sorry I don't have the PN for it now though

Re: Aftermarket Speedometer Question
Kind of figured I'd have to go for a new cable. We've built them in the past at the old hot rod shop but that's long gone for me now.
I have considered removing the threads from the hub on the new speedometer. The O.D. looks to be the same as the threadless fitting on the factory piece, Then I could re-work the clip that holds it all together.
I think for now, I'll just mount the speedo, leave it disconnected and drive via GPS for my mph and odometer. That way I'm back on the road again, (it's been a long winter) and can work towards getting all the bits and pieces that I'm needing.
