computer v-6 to v-8

i'm upgrading from the 2.8l to a 350ci. do i need a computer for the 350? will the car function correctly without it?

I;m not positive, but I think if you replace the V6 PROM with a v8 one it will work. You'll need a new harness though.

It depends.

Last I checked, there were no V6 computers which shared part numbers with V8 computers. The only one that MIGHT possibly work would be the 2bbl to 4bbl conversion... and having done that one, I don't think it will work.

You don't need a new harness for the 2bbl-4bbl if you're willing to cut and splice and move like three pins at the computer plug.

I know for sure the 90-92 V6 and 90-92 TPI V8 use the same 7730 computer. The prom is different, but the computers are the same.

Really Kevin? I thought the MPFI V6s were all MAF based and the last couple years TPI were speed density.

Hmmmm... obviously more research needs to be done on this subject.

BTW, the 4bbl computer is part #01228079. We ought to compile some sort of table on this.
