WTB 87-90 GTA / Formula 350 with under 20k orignial miles
Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for the best GTA or Formula 350 I can find. Have always wanted one with really low miles so i'm starting my "wanted" search here
Here is my "Must have" list:
Must have 100% original paint
1987 through 1990
Analog gauges (no digital dashes please)
350 / 5.7 liter
Under 20k miles
No stories - No accidents, no thefts, no aftermarket parts, no time in a bodyshop, etc
Want to also have (but not a necessity):
Hardtop (No t-tops)
Original Goodyear Gatorback tires and GM floormats
Under 10k miles
Looking for the best one I can find. Willing to travel and have car shipped to Mass where I live. Price must be current market value for cars that are selling, which right now is somewhere in the mid-teens. Have cash in hand for the right car.
Please email me direct at ayrikzr1vet@aol.com if you have one or know of one for sale.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
Erik

I'm willing to go higher than mid-teens for the right car, but i'd want it to be more special than a low mileage formula (1LE, TTA, etc). But I definitely have my eye on it and hope the price gets more reasonable. Thread Starter

Here's one that's close to meeting your criteria:
http://www.cars-on-line.com/56747.html
Mileage is 21k.
This one has a digital dash, GTA's are 50/50 on this option. I know you are trying to stay away from this but not sure why, is it that you don't like the look, or are you worried about reliability? Personally I think the digital dash in a GTA makes it -it's sooo 1980's. Just like a factory 8-track player looks so cool in a 1970's car.

Re: WTB 87-90 GTA / Formula 350 with under 20k orignial miles
I ended up buying a beautiful 87 IROC 350 car, loaded up, still has the gatorbacks
However, I still want a really low mile Pontiac to complete the fleet. I'm really picky, this is what i'm looking for:
87-90 GTA
100% original paint
gatorback tires
hardtop
under 15k miles.
350 / auto
Analog dash
no stories or modifications
If anyone knows of anything, please let me know. I'm willing to pay fair market price, if anyone comes up with something that leads to me buying it, i'm more than happy to send you a good finders fee.
Thanks!
Erik

Here is the one I was going to buy until I found my 89 GTA locally. This car is correct (other than tinted windows), has 16K miles, 350, hard top, analog dash and is very nice. Owner states he has all documentation on car since new. There is a phone number listed on the ad, might be worth a call. Beautiful 87 GTA. Keep us posted on whatever car you choose.

Thank you!! Yes, I know the car, it's exactly whay I am looking for. I had spoken with the owner about 6 months ago. At the time, the car was posted at $20k and she was very inflexible on the price. I'll ping her again to see if we can come to an agreement. Thanks again!

I just missed a very low mile formula 350 the other day... there is a super rare brown GTA I also went to go see with very low miles, I want it badly but it's too far out of the realm price wise.
But thanks again for sending this by

...but the car had mileage issues on the carfax. I knew the car was legit based on condition, but didn't want to deal with the headache if I went to sell it down the road.

Personally, I wouldn't be too concerned about the CarFax: they are only good as the people entering the information. I think people put to much faith in these, IMHO. Legit low mile cars like this one will speak for themselves

I searched for 2.5 years before I got my 10k mile IROC, I have a callaway vette and a gunmetal 87 GTA with 48k miles currently to keep me busy, so When the right one comes along i'll know it
My 10k mile iroc also had the same carfax issue, since he was the original owner though he was able to get it taken care of. I know that the black GTA was a legit low mile car, price was right etc, I just didn't want the hassle when I'd sell it down the road.I'd love to buy that gunmetal GTA, but it's not available currently that I know about. It was owned by Matt Garrett at one point of www.gm-classics.com. He has some awesome 3rd gens and has had some really nice ones in the past too. If anyone knows what became of that GTA, let me know

Re: WTB 87-90 GTA / Formula 350 with under 20k orignial miles
Yeah LOL, patience
I searched for 2.5 years before I got my 10k mile IROC, I have a callaway vette and a gunmetal 87 GTA with 48k miles currently to keep me busy, so When the right one comes along i'll know it
My 10k mile iroc also had the same carfax issue, since he was the original owner though he was able to get it taken care of. I know that the black GTA was a legit low mile car, price was right etc, I just didn't want the hassle when I'd sell it down the road.
I'd love to buy that gunmetal GTA, but it's not available currently that I know about. It was owned by Matt Garrett at one point of www.gm-classics.com. He has some awesome 3rd gens and has had some really nice ones in the past too. If anyone knows what became of that GTA, let me know

Absolutely beautiful GTA. I'd pay a lot of money for that car.

Didn't know if you had seen this one yet http://desmoines.craigslist.org/cto/3864039988.html. It pops up for sale every now and then. Miles are high(for you) but don't see many with the black cloth int.

Hey! Thanks! Yes, I know of the car. Love the color combo with the hardtop and analog gauges. Its a 1 owner car, the thing I didn't like about it is that in one of the other ads for it, he mentions that he hit a deer or something and a portion of the nose has been repainted.
I found one semi-locally to me (under 3 hrs away) with under 10k miles, i'm going to try to see it this weekend. Will keep you guys posted, thanks again for all your help!

Re: WTB 87-90 GTA / Formula 350 with under 20k orignial miles
Hey Everyone!
Well, a couple years after starting the thread, I found the right car and bought it! A '91 1LE Z28 with 5k miles. Hardtop, 350, original paint, tires, floor mats, etc. Completely original car that was incredibly well maintained throughout the years and I love it!
I had to trade my gunmetal GTA towards it to get it to work out. I need to sell either my 90 Vette show car or my 81 Malibu to add another 3rd gen to the fleet, but I'm already starting to look. I'd like to get one more.
Here is what I'd like to get:
-Must be a Pontiac (GTA, Trans Am, Formula) now that I have two 3rd gen Camaros
-I'd like to get a 5.0L TPI 5-speed car now that I have two 350 cars
-Same other criteria: Low Miles, Original paint, prefer hardtop, prefer gatorback tires
About 6 months ago, there was an 89 GTA on ebay that would have been a perfect match, it was a red on gray leather hardtop TPI 5-speed dual-cat car in Florida with 6k original miles. It ended up selling for $14k. If anyone knows where that car ended up, let me know
There is another in CT that I went to see last year, car was gorgeous but the price was nuts. I may try to see if I can work something out with that car in the spring after I sell one of mine.
As always, if I find a car through a lead, I'm more than happy to send a finders fee.
Here are a couple pics of my new-to-me 1LE.
Thanks!
Erik
