can you post some more pictures? How do they open out? Do they open all the way like a regular door?

Also I didnt have the money to get in on this one, so if another one is started let me know I'm definately not losing out again.

Please someone!!! ANYONE post how you went about installing these hinges!!! I got mine yesterday and am gonna be attempting the install this afternoon.

I have so many question...here are a few:

-Can I MIG weld these things in place? Or do I need to find someone to TIG?

-How do you canculate the location for the air struts?

-Do you mount it flush by adding some metal under the hinge/fender area to allow the hinge to fit more flush? (check pics)

-How do you figure out where to weld the "arm" to the door. Doesn't it have to be very very pricise?

i could ask more, but don't wanna ramble on....please any details....

Mig is Ok..

-How do you canculate the location for the air struts?

Pretty easy, after its welded you lift the door by end then mark where they goes..

-Do you mount it flush by adding some metal under the hinge/fender area to allow the hinge to fit more flush? (check pics)

You have to cut the metal, Btw you have to cut also in the door pillar to make it flush, i have put the hinge a bit too mutch near the fender on my first side..

-How do you figure out where to weld the "arm" to the door. Doesn't it have to be very very pricise?

yes, after the hinge are removed make room for the GTF after someone can hold the door very tight on the body then tack weld to try & fit before fully weld...

Also make sure to try the fender before fully weld, i have the need to cut a bit a corner of the fender because i have not done this (to lift to 90deg.) but that not very noticeable..

OK thanks 007 that reply helped a lot. But I am a bit confused aobout one thing you said...

"Pretty easy, after its welded you lift the door by end then mark where they goes"

How did you lift the door easily?

Was it allready tack welded in place?

By door, do you mean slide the hinge and see where they go?

Also how do you figure out where the main body of the hinge attaches to the body??

Thx again 007

Yes you have to tack the door to the hinge then fit try to make sure all is fine..

By door, do you mean slide the hinge and see where they go?

No , after tack weld you open the door by hand then bring it up by hand manualy.

Also how do you figure out where the main body of the hinge attaches to the body??

Door in place whitout hinge the end of the curved part around the center of the door, someone will have to put pressure on it to keep it like normaly close on the car (whithout the fender), then try fit the gtfhinge cut to make room until fit nice, then try fit, tack weld, give a try by hand, replace the fender & adjust to see how they fit, after satisfied then finish the weld.

Good Pic's.

I was wondering if anybody got in on that GP or not. I cam across a local guy who owns a shop that does all kinds of things and one of em is These kits. I said I knew a few guys who wanted em and asked how much he can get em for.

$700/pair

yes its the Same DIABLO kit. weld on.

So if anyone else is interested I have a cheaper suplier then the last one you guys used.

How about some more pic's everyone.

Im wondering how these would look on a vert.... mmmm

007......How did you install the air struts. i can't compress mine at all. Did you put the door ALL the way up and then mark where they should line up and install them fully open? Cuz I know that once the fender is on, the door can not go 100% of the way up, cuz it would hit the fender.

The way I stated above is the only way I can think of installing them. I also was wondering if you can compress your air struts at all, when they were not on the car? Cuz me and my buddy tied as hard as we could and couldn't get them to budge, with all my wieght on one.

Hope you can fill me in. THX

Allright thanks a lot. I thought mine were broken, hahaha. Mine pasenger side door will be fully installed by tonight then. I will post pics tomorrow.

In the next few days I will post a total walk through on my cardomain site.

With a list of tools needed and time used up. (mostly cuz I am using very crappy tools, nothing exotic like a torch or anything. All things that can be picked up at Hom Depot for less than 200 bucks each, i.e. compressor, and welder.) Anyways.... thanks again 007.

How hard is that to get in and out of with the cage?

At least if I do it I have a vert with a cage so shouldnt be a problem no matter what.

Yours looks like it would be a little weird.

Yeah it seems like it would be a bit strange. TPI383 if you wanna see a slightly different set up check out my site. I do not have pics of the doors on yet, but my side bars are a lot lower. This set up makes for a real nice set up and practical looking on mine. I will post pics tonight.

I think the guy in Holland payed like 185 bucks for shipping to him. I would guess that to you in the UK, maybe 150. Really not bad at all considering the quality and rarity of the mod. I just finished my first door. I will post pics soon. i also will make a page on my cardomain site tonight of all the steps of the intall with pics.

Looks awsome on our cars. cuz we have such long doors.

Yeah i agree it does look awesome.
I havent seen anyone over here with them yet on a Camaro.
I found a guy that will ship a set ( incl shipping ) for $575 thats with two struts per door.
I suppose thats about the same as the group buy.
As for pics, id love to see some and any advice would be SO appreciated.
The more i look on the net the more i want to buy, just dont tell the wife!

can you snag a picture of how far the door comes out? it says 25 degrees I just want to see that on a camaro. It's gonna be a daily driver, so if i do it i want to know i can still get out of the car without having to put the door up all the time.

I can get a pic, but not till I get my fenders on there. And that is not gonna happen for a while. I have one, but it kinda sux. i also can't swing the door out unless I push the car out of the garadge. I will get pics of this asap. I did trial fit everything on, with the crappy fender and it is fine. My car is going to be a daily driver, pretty much and there is plenty of room. esspecially if you sit with your seat all the way back. There is no problem at all.

Right now the air struts hit the fender. That is the limiting factor.. I still need to make a slice so as to gain more movment. Then I will have a ton of movment. I have a roll bar and am thin, so I have to step over the bar anyways, and don't need a lot of room at all. But the door is not close to me at all.

Hope that helps. When I get it all togeather I will let you guys know.

Excellent pics, on a superb machine!
Im still going to get a set, but i might have someone fit them, im not overly confident on cutting up me car as parts are a little hard to come by here! lol.

ive just ordered a full suspension set up with airbags in the back, so i think ill fit that first and then have a go at the doors.
Pics help to drive me on! keep em coming!

In case anyone wants to see more pics of the install, I will do the driverside with the digi in my pocket and take a pic every 10 minutes, so you can do a quick slide show and get a real good idea.

Of course. I have no problem taking pics of whatever you want to see. I can send them via email to you. I am sure more people will want to see them too, so chances are I will just end up posting them on my cardomain page, to make them easy refrence to everyone else.

As for how many people have this MOD. I know I only know of the 4 guys that got the GP with me. And maybe 2 others. (green ugly pic, and one other guy that said he got the hinges really cheap locally)

In total I would say less than a dozen. Pretty cool when you think about that. I bet there are less then like 20 in the world, haha. That makes it a RARE mod.

Well I am bored at work so here is a blurry pic of the car rolled out of the garadge and the PS door up. This pic is off my cardomain page hinge install.

I will save the other 2 for new, clear, angle specific pics.

I'll call my guy again 2morrow.

I think the low down is $650-700

No minimum amount of people needed.

Hey guys I was test fitting a fender over the front niple mount for the struts and mine ended up being mounted a tinny bit too far out so that when you put the fender on, it hits the fender skin. This would be a big problem if I was not planing on the Danko wide body panels. But I am , and this problem will diapear for me at least

just to get this thread back on track.......

GT factory is a great company to deal with over the phone.

I messed up some rod ends and they helped me find the right ones I needed. They direct you to a site that sells all kinds of air struts. You can cuztomise your set up there.

Relatively sheap too.

By the way, the DS is WAY harder than the PS. I will be done when I get a day or 2 to finish up.

im looking forward to doing this mod when i find another group purchasefor a decent deal. I figure with the money i save for new door hinges that i need ($200) that about justifies the cost of the kit. another $500 eh what is that? lol

now your inventing new lingo instead of just learning it haha anyway please get me a picture of the dorr opened without going up. So i can decide if i can get in and out of the car with making the doors go vertical. As said my car will be a daily driver for a while rain or shine. So if it's raining i don't want to have to put the door all the way up.

Oh no problem. Only thing is I don't have fenders yet. So the struts push out a bit and thats what would hit first. But I can take a pic of the door open about how much the struts push out and you can be the judge. You have to cut some of the fender lip, this I know. Then set the adjusters to not let the door open enough to hit the fender.

I will take a pic this afternoon. I should get home from work early today too, since I wanna be home when my 2210s get there. i need to sign for.

In the next 2 weeks, major things are happening with my car. I am getting my motor, dropping in the trany, building my oval piped true duals that dump and more. Crazy amount of work to do soon.

Buy yeah, I will post a pic or 2 when I get home. I might not even be able to open the door all the way. I do all my car stuff at my house's garadge, and it is tinny. I will see what I can do.
