Firebird and Trans Am Gauge Rings

***NEWS FLASH*** 3/24/07

TPI383 has announced that he will be producing the BNOON Gauge rings (same as shown in the pics) and now CAMARO GAUGE RINGS! The price has gone up to around $200-225. So if your serious about purchasing the rings, or want to be added to the list since Camaro's are now included PM me or TPI383. TPI383 has CAD diagrams for the camaro rings, as well as BNOON's original plans so the will be the same.

Original post:

This thread has it's origins in one I posted in the parts wanted forum...

Maybe someone should set up a "group purchase" type of deal, and when you get ten, contact brad.

I don't know, just my

KZad

Everyone who is serious , with money ready, pm me. I'll start an official list in this thread, if we get the ten hopefully we can talk with Brad and get them made ASAP!!! For the price I feel this is a very fair deal and it is for all 4 rings.

Re: Firebird and Trans Am Gauge Rings

What finish is going to be on these? Brushed? Why did the price increase so much? Will they be identical to the "bnoon" ones? I'm still interested. When are you going to start making them?

Re: Firebird and Trans Am Gauge Rings

Brushed,polished,..doesnt matter to me how ever you guys want em.

Price increase.. I didnt make the last one. So I have nothing to do with what he sold em for. As he said He took a big loss selling em so cheap. IDENTICAL.. I dont know.

They will be nice and I think everyone will like them. Check out the Billet Emblems and keychains I made.

I should have two protypes out of the machine this week. for fit and finsih testing.

I know the originals were made for the 90's models T/A. Do you have a set that will fit the 82-84? I'd love a set for my 84 T/A.

Do you have a picture of your dash? Whats diff. about em?

I went to the junk yard and bought a cluster and surround for the ones Im gonna make now. I can see if they have a 82-84. Im sure they do.

I know my 85 had the same looking cluster as these rings do now.

(on a side note, I see a weird dash in a Pontiac that had a dozen little holes off towards the P.side of the dash.

Here is what I know

Quoted from this thread here 82firebird's post

This is a copy of what bnoon said..

"The 82-84 will not fit properly because the gauge rings are a bit to thick, hence they stick out. I'll need a measurement from someone before I'd know how much to mill off of the backside for the 82-84 sets."

And 82firebird's reply...

Bnoon, I sent you this in a PM but I'll post it here for anyone else who was wondering.

I went out and measured my guage depth this morning and found they are .5" deep.

There shouldn't be any problem with the diameter of the openings, but I measured that too just incase. I used a caliper and found the opening to be 4.14".

---end post---

So the diameter of the gauges should be the same...I don't think they changed from year to year. Apparently it's the depth that proves to be different.

Anyway, let me know!

Re: Firebird and Trans Am Gauge Rings

Ya looking at the print I have you need to remove .100 off the back side. Not a big deal.

I'm working on finding the best price on material now.

For you guys who think $225 is alot for 4 rings.

a 15x15 sheet that these get made out of is $198 bucks + shipping.
Ive found a few places cheaper So far the cheapest is $101 + shipping.

Thats just material. not making the pieces. polishing em etc.

1sheet gets 1 set of rings outa it. maybe 5 rings max.

Im waiting on a few calls back I have out there for prices.

If anyone knows where to get 3/4think 15x15 sheets of 6061 T6 Alum. let me know.

or a 12inch x 24long Extrusion. that will work also.

Re: Firebird and Trans Am Gauge Rings

BUMP....

I need a SOILD ount of who wants a set of guage rings.
Price is $225shipped. and will be identical to the pic's posted of the ones made before.

Im ready to go soon as you guys are. I found the cheapest price of sheet at $101. Im not gonna commit and buy 5 sheets and make 5 sets only to get stuck with them on a shelf.

Get more people so I can make it feasable for me to buy sheets at 10+ sheets at a time and I can drop the price.

Re: Firebird and Trans Am Gauge Rings

Im still willing to but doesn't look like anybody who did want em , really wants em.

Its not justifiable for me to make 1 st at the price i was offering them at. 1 plate will cost me over 1/2 the price Im willing to sell em for.(and thats if I buy 5 sheets at once. My price goes up I call and say I need one sheet only) Thats not counting Machining time , polishing,etc....

I'm still interested in a set but due to some family financial problems at the moment my time table to do anything on my car that is not related to keeping it running got pushed back about 6 months.

TPI383 will make them, scroll up for the price. I am almost back to where I can buy them though it's been more than the 6 months I originally stated. I've had a baby since then so my finances got all messed up. hehe
