casting numbers

Does anybody know where I can get the ORIGINAL year, make, and model of the vehicle that my engine came from? I have the casting number and I just want to know the info so I have the correct specs. Thanks in advance.

Post the number and if possible on the front of the block passenger side there is a letter code on the block. Post those and I am sure someone could ID it for you.

the casting number is 481988. I did not see any letter code on the block, but I did not look too closely. Isn't the letter code supposed to be right behind where the generator was? I know it is a 2-bolt sb 400. If you could get any idea, i would appreciate it. If you need the letter code, let me know. I can go look at the motor again to see if I acan find it. THANKS!
