Found me a Turbo Trans Am... Couple few questions.
Found me a Turbo Trans Am... Couple few questions.
So there I was checking out this car dealership by my house (a DODGE dealer of all things) and theres this white third gen T/A with the nice mesh wheels so I am thinking maybe its a GTA or something. I get closer and I see the headrests on the back seats... Could this be a turbo? Then a little closer and I see the Indy pace car deacals on the ground effects. Stop my car and check it out, yep, its a turbo.... It looks kinda sad, has been sitting there for over a month, body is kinda dinged up but not toooooo bad. Certainly noting $1000 put in body work wouldnt fix. The interior is leather and mint. I need to go buy it. Im gonna go check it out today. Whats it worth? Any ideas?
My original plan was to swap the motor into one of my RX-7's and then sell the shell, but these things are pretty rare arent they? I remember reading about them, they are something like the fastest 3rd gen F body, stock for stock.

Need a bit more information to give you a ballpark price
Hardtop or T-Top?
Mileage?
how stock does it look?
dual chrome exhaust tips?
under hood look decent?
what does the dealer want for it??
get the VIN and check it on the TTA website

If the dealer knows jack, that car will be very expensive, even if its not in great condition. Maybe if you trade in your two little cars you might scrounge up a downpayment (not a bad idea actually
). And it would be REAL stupid to buy that car just to put that motor in that RX7 because a) its a very sought-after collector's item and should be treated as such and b) 10K+ is a lot of money to drop on a "parts" car.

I'm not sure I'd call them rare. Granted only 1,500 of them were built, but most were snapped up by collectors hoping to make a quick buck, so there are still plenty of perfect examples out there. I've seen two of them in my area alone. I would guess the average price for a perfect example would be about 18K. I'm not sure I'd go much higher than 8 or 9K for the one you described and that's provided the mileage is in check. HPP also did an article on pricing the SE t/as a few years back.
