Questions on restoring convertible.

Ohkay, I've found a white 1990 IROC 'vert. Guy wants $2700Cdn plus HST (15%) for it, not one penny less.

Drivetrain and runnig gear are all fine, it's a LB9/T5 car, I think SD/TPI? (Correct me if I'm wrong)...

Here's "The Thing"...It's had an interior fire. We're talking ALL the interior. The fire is all in the passenger compartment, not in front of the firewall, although some of the wires are melted, I'd asssume it'd need a new harness anyway, seeing as the fuse panel is gone. I can get a whole parts car with a great interior in grey for $1200CDN, or part out the Z with a black interior. (maybe even for the harness, suspension mods, etc, etc. and bring in some cash off what I don't need)

What am I getting myself into? I'd assume one could get the burned sections soda-blasted or sand-blasted. Then comes the swapping of interiors, pretty straight forward. As for a top, etc., I'd have to insure my other car anyway while it's being fixed, so I'd just drive it while it's nice, until I could scrounge up some 'vert specific interior parts, and a black ragtop. Opinions?

Swapping interiors would be simple IF you could find the parts. There are many interior trim parts that are specific to the convertibles. The majority of these parts are discontinued. There is no aftermarket supplier as of yet, so the only way to get them is from another convertible being parted out. Based on this you'll find them priced as if they were gold plated. Also to make matters worse ASC went through at least 3 different versions of much of the trim. For example the #1 bow plastic trim that surrounds the latch mechanism, 87-88, 89-90 & 91-92. Same story on the convertible top frame itself. The top fabric is redily available, but the 87-88 & 89-90 frames are discontinued. 91-92 is surprisingly availabel for something like $3K. Some of the rear compartment trim items can be modified from coupe pieces. Do some serious research on this before you commit the money for the car. Good luck, Lon.
