iroc or not iroc

i saw an iroc at a swap meet a while ago, an 85 with 36k on it, and it was said to be all stock, but it was a 4 barrel. we're there non TPI IROCs? I also thought it was weird that the outer edge of the t tops were painted red to match the car. could that be original? I've never seen em that way "stock."

The t-tops being painted was definitely custom done...

And yes, there were many non-TPI IROCs throughout the years!

To add to Jason's comments, here's a listing of engines available in the IROC-Z years:

1985 Z28
Base: 305 carb (LG4)
Option: 305 TPI (LB9)

1985 Z28 w/IROC-Z Option
Base: 305 carb (LG4)
Option: 305 carb (L69 H.O.)
Option: 305 TPI (LB9)

1986 Z28
Base: 305 carb (LG4)
Option: 305 carb (L69 H.O.) - extremely few made.
Option: 305 TPI (LB9)

1986 Z28 w/IROC-Z Option
Base: 305 carb (LG4)
Option: 305 carb (L69 H.O.) - extremely few made.
Option: 305 TPI (LB9)

1987 Z28
Base: 305 carb (LG4)
Option: 305 TPI (LB9)

1987 Z28 w/IROC-Z Option
Base: 305 carb (LG4)
Option: 305 TPI (LB9)
Option: 350 TPI (L98)

1988 - 1989 IROC-Z
Base: 305 TBI (LO3)
Option: 305 TPI (LB9)
Option: 350 TPI (L98)

1990 IROC-Z
Base: 305 TPI (LB9)
Option: 350 TPI (L98)

The 305 TPI became the base, no-cost engine in the 1990 model year. All year's previous, it was either the carb LG4 or throttle body LO3 that was the base engine in the Z28 / IROC-Z.

You're probably thinking of RS's where TBI's were common from 88-92
