DIY rear decklid removel

I posted this topic in body and Interior board but I wanted to see if anyone in here could help out. I really need to know how to remove my rear deck lid on my 86 IROC. I have a 91 Z/28 High rise spoiler with the deck lid connected to it...for bolting purposes(no guess work ) When I went to try to remove it I saw that some type of adhesive black glue was holding it on. How do u remove this glue without cracking my window?? Basiclly I wanna know how to get the deck lid off to install a new one!!

i had to replace my rear glass after my car got broken into in august, so i bought a used rear glass hatch, still attatched to the decklid. We had a auto glass specialist come over to help us, we knew him. After you have all of the bolts out that go through the glass, you just start cutting it. He had about a 6-8" tool with an extremely sharp razor on the end of it. We just hacked away at the rubber adhesive stuff until it went all of the way through. He was really putting a lot of stress and flex into the glass, i honestly thought that he was gonna break it, but that glass is some extremely tough sh*t, and it can take a lot. Another tool that you could use is a lanolium (spelling??) floor cutting tool, that would prolly work. Anyways, after we got the glass pieces off of my decklid, and the new glass off of the old decklid, we used a razor to get all of the adhesive off and then reattatched everything. (obviously with new adhesive) You might want to get out your torque wrench and check the current torqe specs on the bolts that go through the glass before you take them out, that way you can torque them to the same pounds as before and you wont break the glass.

Do it like you do an old windshield, with a piece of music wire as a cutter. drill a little hole through the gook by whatever means, feed the wire through, use it like a saw.
