89 GTA converts. How many Produced?
89 IROC Vert -
Where did you learn the 396 number? That is closest I've seen posted to what I learned from an original 89 Formula owner back in 92. He sent me an ASC computer printout of 369 converted up through 21 Aug 89, but said there were 45-to-49 cars missing from the list. ASC folks "guestimated" over phone tom me in 92 that about a fourth may have been GTAs.

Wait a minute....
I just posted that I was told a week ago 50 GTAs made in 1989. The seller was on eBay and emailed me.
I believe the number to be smaller then the 396, but maybe 369 total.

I'd love to know the origin the that "50" number. I first heard of it in 1994 when I was having collision repair done on my 89 GTA cvt. -- an excited employee at the body shop came out and said there were only 50 of my car made. FrankieRider2 has said on the board [3-30-02] that 50 350s were made in 89. My suspicion is that this number 50 may have been published in an auto mag. early on and became legend. --Chick Walter

Yes, the "50" figure was indeed published in an auto magazine several years ago... High Performance Pontiac, to be exact.
They quoted from ASC that a total of 369 cars were built in '89, and that only 50 were built with the 5.7L TPI V8.... which was standard on the GTA.
As for the "396" figure, I've never heard that one before.

**In one of the threads here I mentioned Porsche's low end car that enthusiests sneer at, well, it isn't really the 914, it's the 924!
I couldn't think of it for some odd reason but it's the poor man's 944.**
