Hi!
There were never any California Edition Trans Ams made, but there were California Firebirds made.
These came in one color only per year in the early years, and had special decals (stripes and such), and special rear spoilers (these had a fiberglass rear spoiler that went down the body on both sides, as well as longer, meaning they went alittle bit further towards the doors as well. But nowhere near as far as the Trans Am /GTA style aero wrap-around rear spoiler.
Most of these cars were just known as :
Firebird 500
Although in 1986, it was the Banchee, believe it or not! This car also had a aero package made of fiberglass, was all black, and had silver "Banchee" decals as well. As far as I can tell, it was only marketed in 1986 only.
In 1989, the California Edition was the:
Firebird XS (Los Angeles area)
Firebird SSA (Sacto area-Northern Calif.)
Firebird ? (Thise were the Denver, Colorado area)
The cars were marketed in these areas only in 1989. They had the Trans Am style Aero Package, but the regular Firebird rear spoiler, not the Trans Am/GTA style aero wrap-around rear spoiler. The following years, they were marked everywhere as just the Firebird with the Sport Appearance Package.

I'm not sure if there were Firebird Special Editions for California from 1987 thru 1988.
I do know that in 1994 and on (maybe 1993 as well, not sure), there were Firebird SCEs made. these cars had another spoiler on top of the existing spoiler!

Hope this helps,

George
