85 convert?
was talkig to some guy and he said he has an 85 convert
thing is he said it as some prototype to see how well the chassiss works I guess.
now is this guy giving me the truth or some BS?

I guess it could be possible. Although released as an 87 model I believe factory authorized converts started production in 1986. So it is concievable that if developement started a year or more before production, the development work would of been done on an 85 model. However as most members here can attest to, GM had a policy of destroying its F body test mules and not releasing them for sale to the public as in the case with the infamous 50 1986 5.7 test mules. Maybe it was different with the converts though since perhaps EPA certification was maybe not required for a body alteration. Now if you were able to get the cars vin that might clear up alot of questions, such as year although it might not have a convertible designation since it was pre production. Bear in mind that it would probably need some kind of ASC badging as they were the authorized factory fabricator. I belive 2 other companies were making convertibles in the early 80's, one was Choo Choo customs and the other ones name escapes me but they made the "speedster" convertible with the unique tonneau cover that eliminated the back seats.Willie might have more insight into this.
