Is it worth it?

Allright, my car is an 89 formula 305 with trottle body, the miles are at 178,000 but it still runs fine, the hood needs replaced, the hatch rattles, needs new tires, a little interior work, and the passenger door probably needs replaced too. (Dad scraped it on a trailor hitch) With that many miles would it be worth spending the money on fixing it up or should i spend my money on something a little more worthwhile. I dont have a whole lot to spend thats why a new engine is outta the question. I love the car though too bad its not a 5.7

well...sentimental value sure plays a part in something like this, buuut...the money it is going to cost to restore the car may not be worth it. it may be more cost affective to buy a car that is in better condition, provided it is a third-gen of coarse

I agree. Also, unless you're partial to the TBI system, you may also look for a car with TPI.

It looks nice when its clean, i can get a 89 base formula in good condition with no engine and same color for 700, will the door switch out? I guess i could settle on the hood even though its missing the nice lookin scoop. And do you have any idea on keeping the hatch from rattling, i think it needs tightening but im not sure how to go at it.

Yeah, its too bad im missin out on the extra horse a tpi would provide but its a lot easier to get around under the hood without it. Ill get a pic of the beast as soon as I can to see what ya think, you cant help but love it. It looks fast just sitting there.

Do you really want to see how much "extra horses tpi will give you over tbi?"

http://bitchincamaro.no-ip.com/dyno.html

Wow, a whopping 9 hp over a stock tbi, and that was including underdrive pulleys, aluminum driveshaft, airfoil, and slp cold air intake! Oooo, aaaaaa, 9 hp including other mods, tpi is awesome. Ha. It's not the tbi that holds the l03 back, it's the crappy heads and cam. The engine loses all of it's power after 3500 rpm with tpi too. TPI is far superior to tbi right? :lala:

Nice choice of words there, i was referring to the fact that my car came factory with under 200 horse, and there is a model that came out with about 230 that was tpi. Thats a little more that 9 horse there. No need to get grumpy because you know more than me about the car.

Sorry, I wasn't directing that towards you. It was directed more to the people that say tpi is so much better than tbi and think that the reason the L03, aka 305 tbi, is down on hp compared to the LB9, if the L03 was a 305 tpi it still would make similar power as shown in in the dyno graph. There is a lot more to that 230 hp engine you are referring to, like way better heads, way better cam, more timing, etc. TPI is not what makes it faster. As for fixing it, it's up to you. If it were my car and I had an attachment to it then I would go ahead and fix it. If not, then choose whichever route is cheaper.

Thats cool man. Like I said anyways id rather have TBI. I guess the car will have to do until I can get a real job. It's enough for me to handle, plus it still takes most of the mustangs whos drivers think they are baddass.
