build and delivery sheet
This worked for me when i was looking to buy a 94 caprice 9c1.Go to any gm dealership try (Chevrolet or Pontiac first ) go to the service center give the guy your Vin(actually your last 8 digits of your vin #) and he should print out a copy of your car's build sheet which inlcudes stuff like build date rpo codes what engine it came with from the factory basicly everything you want and need to know about your car.According to the guy i spoke with at my local Pontiac dealership it goes only back to 1990 gm vehicles.I recommended everyone to get this it tells you every thing about the car even when and were it was delivered and if it has/had Any recalls on it.Good luck !!
p.s Most of the rpo codes are included in the printout with descriptions of each rpo code.

Take the interior of your car apart you might fine it under your seats or behind some moldings. You be suprised where you might find it in your car.

I just found mine recently. It was under the carpet under the driver's seat. Strange place, but it was dry and in perfect condition, just like it was when they put it there 19 years ago. Some of the members have found them in different places inside the car, even inside the seats! Good luck in the search! Brad
PS- it's not the same thing as a build sheet, but Pontiac Historic Services does offer a packet of info for your car. I think the total cost is $35.00. I just received mine. It gives you a reprint of the invoice that has many of the RPO codes on it, a photo of the car for that year from the Pontiac files, even information on how to properly store a car! I've enjoyed reading it and it makes good background info your car and where it was delivered and how much it originally cost.
