A few ?s about Interiors
I have a few questions on things I’ve seen…
(1) Different colour dash than instrument panel. I’ve seen this on a few cars, with grey and black. The dash pad is black and the instrument panel is grey or the other way around. Or the instrument panel is dark grey and then over by the map pocket, that’s lighter grey. I was wondering if this was ‘standard’ as an ‘upgraded’ interior on a certain type of car… perhaps for a Formula or Trans Am? Just wondering if there’s some rhyme or reason to this or if it was available as an option.
Also…
(2) Upholstery. Most cars, okay ALL cars I’ve seen with stock CLOTH seat covers have the same pattern as mine. Where it’s, in essence, a solid colour. This is the encore velour. I’ve seen in catalogues, regal velour for sale, which is a tight checkerboard pattern. For example, with light grey and then darker grey. I’ve never seen a car with this, though. Does anyone know what it took to get this kind of upholstery in your car?
Thanks a bunch.

Another question - what about fabric covered consoles and such? Like in the rear hatch, those plastic pieces covered in fabric. Was this only available on certain models or years?
My 86 TA has the two tone regal velour that you mention. MY RPO code is 82C and a fellow on Yahoogroup quoted me this:
According to my 1986 Pontiac Dealer Product Book, There was:
1 gray Sierra vinyl interior (82R9)
1 gray Genor cloth interior (82B9) (extra cost)
1 gray Pallex cloth interior (82C9) (Medium gray w/ Graphite Pallex cloth
insert)
Problem is Hawks doesnt have the lighter color in regal...(See my post in this section about two tone seats) I also sent an eamil to another fellow on this site who has an 89 TA with 82C and his look to be a solid color from the pics. Hmmm...
Dont know if thats any help to you or not as Im looking for sanswers myself.

Ok, I have an RPO of 82B (cloth, medium dark grey) so I guess C is for the regal velour and B for the encore velour. Sounds like it might be fairly rare then... do you have pictures of your interior?
The dash pads on thirdgens were always black, no exceptions. Some Firebirds, had parts of the dash in various colors... I've seen red, orange, and gray. Most are simply black.
On your upholstry question, from 85-up, the only fabrics used on Firebird interiors were Pallex and Metrix. Anything you see listed elsewhere (velours) are aftermarket, the original materials are as I mentioned pallex and metrix. Metrix was used primarily on the GTA interiors, but I've seen a couple T/A's with the same fabric on the base firebird seats.

people do sometimes paint parts of the dash to break up the black, maybe thats the case here..
Here's what mine looks like.

I know some people paint them to jazz it up. But, I've seena lot of stock ones with the black dash pad and then dark grey instrument clusters and light grey accents, and then maybe by the map pocket it will be black...
Was wondering if there's a rhyme or reason for this.
