Need Help Buying: How much should I pay for this car?
1991 Red Trans Am/Formula 113,000 miles. The body is perfectly straight except two small dings on the driver side door. 3 of 4 wheel arches have slight surface rust on them due to the paint chipping. The car was built in Van Nuys and looks to have been repainted (haven't checked RPO yet so I don't know if it is the original color). The paint actually looks pretty good except for the chipping in the wheel arches.
The underbody looks like it has been painted because it is starting to chip and I can see rust underneath. Looks like surface rust, but I'm still worried somebody was trying to hide something. The interior is in good condition, just need to be cleaned and have the plastic sleeves that hold the seat belt buckles replaced.
Now, I'm not sure if it is a Trans AM or a Formula, it has Trans Am stickers on it, but has a LB9 305 TPI motor. I thought Trans Ams only came equipped with the L98 350.
Oh, the front and rear fascias will likely need to be repainted because it looks like the guy scraped em up on a curb or something.
Sorry for the long a** post, I just don't want to get suckered. It is located at a small dealership, the guy is asking $3500. Too Much?
Thanks in advance.

Ok, I just test drove it and it has a 350 in it that leaks around the head gaskets. It has exhaust leaks, when the heat is on the car fills with smoke, and despite having the performance suspension badge on the dash, it has drums out back.
Oh and when the tranny shifts it clunks, I'm thinking new transmission mounts are in order.
I'm not buying it. The guy looks shady and so does this car.
Thanks anyway.

Good Choice!!! A basket case like that isn't worth much more than a $1000.
I paid $3200 for my '91 Formula, w/ 113,000 miles, mods listed in sig. as well as a freshly rebuilt tranny. And my paint was stock with only one bad spot and no rust, and the engine ran great.
Wise Choice, Garrett
