Most likely a custom job like the Autoform Firebirds. That is it is not a convertable from the factory, a third party performed the custom work. Not too different from the way Firehawks were made.

If it is in decent shape and was a quality conversion then cheap is good. On the other hand most of the customizers are probably out of business so replacing the top might be tough.

My facts aren't 100% accurate either, but ershealy is right. If I remember correctly, certain dealers were allowed to order them in 84. They were technically aftermarket, but they were brand new. I beleive it was basically GM gearing up for the eventual return of the vert in 87. There was no RPO.

There's gotta be info on this somewhere...but I'm tired, and currently too lazy to search.

It's definitely an aftermarket conversion. All lot of them aren't very good. If the top is shot you will have problems finding a replacement.

Hi!
Any "top" shop can reolace it. But, it will be more $$$, as it is now custom work, and not something that the shop can order from somewhere.
I have a 1979 Trans Am convertible, I found this out the hard way!
Just look for a shop that does convertible tops.

Sounds like a cool car,

George
