Restoration Advise...

Hey i am restoring a 84 z28 camaro, and i have a few questions. Basically i have replaced the front half of the car including the doors with all new ones. However i am having a dilema figuring out where to go from here. I think i need a new engine soon, the one i have now is a old 350 4bbl, and the t-5 tranny is junk. I need to fix some rust on the rear quarter panles, and floor, but i am thinking maybe i should do the engine, and tranny then come back to the body work...

Any advise?

Thanks in advance...

Depends on how much time you have, how much money you have, and if it is a daily driver or not.

I am doing a ground up restoration on my camaro (pics coming up soon), but I am also putting well over $20k into my car. Everything is being stripped and either replaced new or with better aftermarket. $8k engine, $2k rear, $2k, tranny, $2k interior, etc... If it were me I would say take it down to frame have it blasted and than repainted. Replace everybit of wiring with new including an ew fuse box, drop in a ZZ4 if you dont want to build the engine and want something cheap or... Since no 350's came with a 5 speed tranny your not stock anyway. It just depends on what you want.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback.

Yeah, i dont plan on going 100% stock, close though, they guy before me already took the liberty of putting in the crappy 350...

This isnt a daily driver, nor do i want it to be when its done, and i want it as close to perfect as i can with the money i have as i get it. I think the main issue for me is i dont have a location to keep it at all the time, otherwise i would probably tackle it similar to the way you are doing it. It pretty much needs everything redone, and i have just been doing it as i can, taking hookups first over the way i might normally do it. That kinda bothers me, but i guess in the end i will spend less doing it that way.

What did the ZZ4 come out of?

Oh, cash comes as i get it, enough to keep the project moving at a decent rate. Never enough to do a major step all at once though. Time, is mainly weekends... here and there. All body work will be done by a buddy of mine...

Thanks for the info
